I bet this could start a flamewar if posted in the right forum:

Resident Evil is just Dead Space, but on Earth and with less interesting weapons.

@alyx

But Dead Space came after, right?

So, really, Dead Space is just RE in space.

@Aldo2
That's where the flame war potential lies. :pepeLaugh3:

But if you're a newbie, there's a certain time span where you could have grown up with Dead Space, and after that you see all the Resident Evil Remakes.

@alyx

Never really played either series, although I've seen gameplay of them.

My main RE memory is the first film.

Mostly just the shower scene.

But Dead Space also has some cool anime-style shorts.

@Aldo2
Played all of Dead Space. Saw the animated movies (I think there's 2 of them IIRC). Read some of the books and some comics.
Only played a bit of RE5 (didn't have much fun with it).

@alyx @Aldo2 Why did they start with 2 if they never released a 1? Where's Alice? These games are nothing like the movies

@galena @Aldo2
"Where's Alice?" would definitely be an amazing flame war starter.

@alyx @Aldo2 i don't think that's possible. resident evil has pretty much always been around, or at least was always around when dead space was. if you were old enough to have any desire to play dead space at all you most likely knew what resident evil was. that's when 5/6 and revelations were coming out.

@beardalaxy @Aldo2
Rezident Evil because complete shit around the time Dead Space was awesome, so I don't think it's unreasonable to think someone might not be aware that there was a horror game series called Resident Evil, until they went back to their roots recently.

@alyx Yeah

>even the developers happily acknowledge it. In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Visceral Games (then EA Redwood) explain that they initially intended to make System Shock 3. Then they played Resident Evil 4 and immediately reimagined the game as a third-person action horror. It was an entirely deliberate decision. But the change in approach also meant they had to sell a new IP to EA, and to do that they had to make Resident Evil 4 in space excellent.
