Nothing says "stuck in the 90s" more than calling flash drives "jump drives".

@xianc78@gameliberty.club The only reason I know what "jump drive" even means is because it was on posters all over my school explaining how to use Windows XP

@bonkmaykr Apparently, the different names stem from the fact that many different companies, all of the sudden, came with the idea of having removable flash storage that is accessed by USB and they all had different names for it, some of them being trademark. "Flash Drive" somehow ended up being the dominant name even though the term could technically be used for any flash-memory-based storage.

"Thumb drive" seemed to be the dominant generic name in my circles.

@nicholas @bonkmaykr @xianc78 I say either flash drive or USB stick. I always thought that jump drive and thumb drive were things old people said lol

@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club @nicholas@aklp.club @xianc78@gameliberty.club I'll call it anything but jump drive. I prefer to say Thumb because using the term "flash drive" to refer only to small USB sticks is kinda dumb lol. "flash stick" sounds better but nobody wants to say that

"Flash stick" sounds better? 🤔 For me that phrase instantly calls to mind what creeps on the subway like to show unsuspecting riders.
