@vetharvester #Feddit's rules are definitely more lenient than dev.lemmy.ml, the only other #Lemmy instance I know of. Right now I'm only posting links to the site, so I'm guessing I probably won't cross any written (or unwritten) rules on the site. But some people aren't that happy with the software. Not sure why tho.
Probably when the project matures a bit, we can expect to see a #FreeSpeech instance.
@aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @vetharvester "feminazi", "ladyboy", and "restarded" are blocked?? 😂😂
Shouldn't be too hard to fork tho if somebody wants to fix it.
Funny part is tho they should make that modifiable, for flexibility, and power on the admin side. Like imagine some dunderhead wanting to ban, say, "Make America Great Again"? They can't really do that with the current code.
@vetharvester @deadheat @aktivismoEstasMiaLuo mmm racists are probably the only ones who know it then
Took me awhile to hear "jogger" too
@PorkCow @aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @realcaseyrollins @deadheat @coolboymew yikes. That is pretty horrible
@aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @realcaseyrollins @vetharvester
SLUR_REGEX: Regex = RegexBuilder::new(r"(fag(g|got|tard)?|maricos?|cock\s?sucker(s|ing)?|\bn(i|1)g(\b|g?(a|er)?(s|z)?)\b|dindu(s?)|mudslime?s?|kikes?|mongoloids?|towel\s*heads?|\bspi(c|k)s?\b|\bchinks?|niglets?|beaners?|\bnips?\b|\bcoons?\b|jungle\s*bunn(y|ies?)|jigg?aboo?s?|\bpakis?\b|rag\s*heads?|gooks?|cunts?|bitch(es|ing|y)?|puss(y|ies?)|twats?|feminazis?|whor(es?|ing)|\bslut(s|t?y)?|\btr(a|@)nn?(y|ies?)|ladyboy(s?)|\b(b|re|r)tard(ed)
@chaekyung @vetharvester @realcaseyrollins "mongoloid" is not a slur. It's outdated. It /can/ be offensive depending on context, but the word was never used in a widespread derogatory way. The word was even used in scientific papers (e.g. the study that compared IQ to brain size IIRC).
@aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @realcaseyrollins @vetharvester That kind of thing should be in a config file or database that the sysadmin can easily add/remove words, not hardcoded.
@realcaseyrollins @vetharvester #Feddit is not run by #freeSpeech proponents. When the only co-branded Discovercard was discontinued, stux censored a post asking if any alternates exist: https://feddit.social/modlog/community/116
@aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @vetharvester Yeah I know; I don't trust it as much since Stux kicked me off mstdn.social (which he also runs) for the sins of being called alt-right (without evidence) and not liking #BlackLivesMatter 😂 so this doesn't surprise me. I don't post there anymore.
#Lemmy isn't #FreeSpeech software by any means, but news.inditoot.com is a better instance with far freer rules.
@realcaseyrollins @vetharvester well news.inditoot.com is a #CloudFlare site so I have to nix that. dev.lemmy & feddit are censorship nazis, gix.uk is dead, inditoot is CF'd.. what else is there?
@aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @vetharvester Nothing yet. I've thought about asking P (from FSE) to set one up, but I know he's super busy setting up #Fediverse instances for people for free (the guy is a champ, he's making one for me too)
@realcaseyrollins @vetharvester Personally I'm against banning words because that ignores the context. Better to just restrict speech which incites hatred. That really pisses off the snowflakes though because they're actually big offenders in that regard with their "stale pale male" slogans and so on.
@Korsier @vetharvester The definition of what exactly is hateful changes with the wind. Best to allow as much speech as possible.
@realcaseyrollins @vetharvester Incitement to hatred based on race, biological gender (male or female) or sexual orientation (gay or straight) is how I define it. Essentially innate and immutable individual characteristics.
Most everything else is open season as far as I'm concerned. But if you want to criticise capitalism or Christianity or certain politicians, then be prepared for us to hammer your bugbears too - socialism, wokeism, lgbtqiwtf, etc.
@Korsier @vetharvester I still wouldn't give hate speech powers to anyone. Not everyone is as fair and balanced as you are. Most definitions of hate speech are intolerant.
@realcaseyrollins @vetharvester That's the fundamental problem with "hate speech". As a concept it's far too open to the bias of the interpreter. In a democratic society, it's very important to be able to say things which are unpopular.
@realcaseyrollins @vetharvester In order for a free speech respecting #Lemmy instance to exist, it would have to modify the code. The blocked words are hard-coded: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/blob/master/server/lemmy_utils/src/lib.rs#L259
