Seriously, can someone explain to me the obsession with tipping in restaurants?
I get I can tip people if they do something special, but weitress is a job like literally any other.
@kura
Man, I get the point of tipping. About a week ago, I tipped 50 percent in a restaurant, but that was, because they were open on a holiday.
But when it comes to weitress being underpayed, that goes directly to the "not my problem" category.
And not as in "I don't care", but why the fuck do they work a job, that would be categorized as illegal by default? If they didn't resolve this before signing, then my charity only goes to support that shit. No, thank you.
@LukeAlmighty@gameliberty.club like I said, I only tip for service I like, not for my consciousness
@mizuki @LukeAlmighty @kura everyone here in the US says that the minimum to tip is 12%. If your meal is only like $15 that's not a whole lot of money. if my waiter was a dick i won't tip them at all, but if i liked them i'll normally leave $5.
@LukeAlmighty
Don't know how it is in other countries, but from what I've personally seen, restaurants intentionally underpay their waiters, and use the prospect of "you're gonna get untaxed tips" as a bonus to attract employees to work for them. So from the waiter's perspective, the tip IS part of their salary that the employer promised they'd get.
@LukeAlmighty idk how it is elsewhere in the world, but in the US, waiters get less than minimum wage in order to incentivize them treating the customers well so that they get tips. if you're a crusty cum sock to everyone, you won't make money.
it keeps prices down for the restaurant too.
the amount that people generally say is the minimum to tip, 12%, isn't that expensive either. waiters actually end up getting paid pretty well if they do a good job.
honestly i would rather have it like this, than getting paid minimum wage and making a commission percentage, because with getting tips you know it's because people liked having you as their waiter but with commission it's just because you convinced them to buy a product.
@LukeAlmighty@gameliberty.club in America, waitresses are notoriously underpaid and each restaurant makes use of tipping to argue that they earn enough.
Some countries see tipping as an insult (indirect way of saying to get a real job or something)
I personally tip if I think the service was nice, but I don't tip as much as some other people do. Usually up to 3 Euro.
Though in Germany, tipping isn't done by everyone either.
