Targeted ads are not evil.
I would love, if all ads I got were in fact well targeted. But the collected info is being used for much more evil things, then ads. And noone is talking about that.

Weird, I always thought, that the point of targeted ads was, that you find people who already have the need for your product.
But that's my economics education making me retarded again :D
Also, I might have a different opinion, if I've ever seen a targeted advert working on me in the slightest. But it's always either general bullshit, or something I know about already.
Yes, I've played 1 000+ hours of War thunder. But what's this? A 30th War thunder advert? This time on a War thunder advanced grinding strats video? How did they know?
@LukeAlmighty I agree that ads are the least of our worries. Using surveillance for things like social credit or government control is much more evil. But it would be nice if ads went back to what they were a few decades ago: non-targeted and didn't hog resources.
@LukeAlmighty The point of ads is to create a need in your brain so they can sell you the solution. If you have a need already, you're probably capable of searching for it yourself
There can be exceptions, but on average, any sort of ad is doing you harm
