It is literally a Strong female character worship sessions. While the references are various, the spirit of Star Trek is replaced by Californian "cool drugged up teen" culture.

To be fair, she is now in the perfect "plus size" range, where is just adds variety to the roster, while still being great looking.

But yeah, it's kinda weird people don't get how "layered clothes" work. Especially in art.
