The reason I asked, is cause I think it tried to latch on to context.

See, when it saw "tea", it knew from the British context that tea is drunk in the afternoon. So, because it saw tea there, and you were translating to English, it thought that "dinner" was an attempt to describe a later time in the day, when one could have tea. Which in the English context is obviously the afternoon. It completely ignored "dinner" being about a meal, and took it as a rough approximation of a time in the day.

>doesn't mean, I changed my entire personality
From what I've seen, that's exactly what current YT thinks. Which is weird, cause YT has had recommendations forever, but it's only recently it became so stupid to not be able to tell when you were only interested in 1 video from a youtuber because it was about a very specific thing.

This happened to me yesterday. Watched a video about how the best episode of Batman Beyond is actually in the Justice League show, but now I keep getting recommendations of that same channel that I don't care in any way about, or even other random Batman stuff.

I think before it would obsess over something only after you searched and watched several videos about the same topic, or same youtuber. Now it obsesses on the first hit.

@thor
Wow...
Well, I don't think it's a surprise translate software don't recognize dialects. It's mostly gonna be trained on the main language. At most you can expect for it to know regional synonyms for various words, but any word that is just a slight variation in spelling is gonna be ignored in the algorithm's learning phase.

Out of curiosity, are the proper words for tea and afternoon in any way close to "te" and "meddag", in terms of spelling?

@LukeAlmighty
How the fuck do they screw up that badly?! I've seen that happen on my start page a few times, but only because I had reached the end of the doomscrolling hell, and Youtube simply didn't know what to give me anymore. So it just plopped everything it could from a few channels I'm subscribed to.
Haven't seen it on the sidebar, and not to this extent.

@thor
I'd love some Thorsk tea, thank you very much!

Considering everyone is so comfortable saying "fuck" these days, I propose we switch the "f word" description to the word "feet".

@thor
Not really. I can do that with mine too if I want.

Let's just hope either Valve continues with a Deck 2, or more manufacturers plunge into this market.

I think people are doing the same distinction between desktop PC and Deck as they do between desktop and laptop.

They're all a x86 compatible computers, but you still have different expectations when it comes to performance between all the 3. And because of the Deck's size, people automatically think of it much less than even a laptop. But in reality it is just a laptop without a dedicated GPU. And I think people are used to the idea of integrated GPUs being shit, but in reality they've grown quite capable, especially on the AMD side.
I've got an AMD laptop myself, and purposefully disabling it's dedicated GPU and trying games on it's integrated one has been a fun hobby for me lately.

Apparently tinfoil hats actually concentrate electromagnetic radiation into your brain. Levels are of course way too small to do anything, but it's still funny.

NEW: Mormon LDS Church voices support for Senate bill that will codify gay marriage into federal law.

@Ratcliffe
Mormons... supporting gays... isn't that out of character for them?

@mushroom_soup
Sooo... how much of a surprise should I make it? Is just leaving it on her night stand enough? Or do I need to lunge it at her face with as much speed as possible, so she is REALLY surprised?

What?! He's fucking freshly cooked poultry? Most confusing thing I've read today...

I'll say it again, what are you doing online? What are you doing in front of a PC? Because I promise you, most of the tech you're currently using does not abide by whatever standards you're trying to use in this argument.

But I do love that you switched from "I can't audit it myself, so I can't trust it", to "I can trust other people auditing it, but only for OpenBSD cause people I don't actually know promise me they run over it with a fine tooth comb".

@rdr @iska@mk.starnix.network
Dude, what are you even doing on the internet? What are you doing in front of a computer? What, you trust your Linux/BSD? Surely you didn't read every line of code in your OS?

You're a complete retard man. There are countless individuals, unaffiliated with Google, auditing AOSP. Are you gonna say you don't trust any of them to report what they find?
