Skylar & Plux: Adventure On Clover Island Review (7.5/10)

Skylar & Plux didn't do anything particularly spectacular, but you can tell it was made with love by a studio that was unfortunately given the raw end of the deal with the game being pulled from digital storefronts by the publisher. What a travesty!

It is a very simple game with a couple of cool unique mechanics, but it certainly could have been fleshed out more. Being only about 2 hours long, it was pretty short. For what it was, though, I had a very enjoyable time with it. I think that if the developers were to build on their design for this and give more playgrounds for the movement, especially with moments where switching in between all the powers is necessary to progress, it could be really cool. Add in some things like wall runs or wall jumps and you've got yourself a pretty stellar platforming engine.

The characters, for the most part, are pretty par for the course, as is the rest of the game. The more unique character is the villain, who is a giant television with robot hands named CRT which was pretty funny. The dialogue is all very safe, sometimes borders on cringe but I'm assuming the game is aimed more towards kids so it's fine! I can imagine playing this as a kid and having a really good time with it as a first platformer.

Maybe one day we can see Skylar & Plux realized to its fullest extent, but until then, I'd recommend anyone who is a fan of 3D platformers to give it a shot. I'm sure there are other ways to get a copy.

started playing this little 3d platformer. apparently the publisher completely delisted it from everywhere it was being sold a few years ago and didn't even tell the devs they were doing it. the devs were able to get the rights for the IP but aren't allowed to redistribute the game unfortunately. total publisher death.

anyway, i've played it for about 45 minutes and it's quite fun so far. nothing super revolutionary, but you can tell it was made with love and that's a good feeling to have when you're playing a game. it's really unfortunate that you can't buy it anymore. however, it was on GOG so i'm sure there's a torrent floating around somewhere.

@xianc78 here's my test with the transparent wall stuff. the ability to make walls semi-transparent like this was only just recently added so i think it still has some issues with the rendering.

not too shabby
(not buying the game but i wanted to get in a bit of shoot for the open beta)

ubisoft finally tanking after all the years of bullshit is so nice to see
