@Mr_NutterButter America has always been like this with Japan, though. Look at things like violence against women not being allowed in US versions of old retro games, or artistic nudity being censored in Castlevania. Japan viewed video games as an art form far before the west did, where it was just a toy for kids to play with.

Likewise, Japan has plenty of western things that get censored over there. Callisto Protocol, for instance, would have had to change so much that the developers just said fuck it and didn't release it in Japan.

The cultures are quite different, and it's best to let them exist without trying to force the more authoritative aspects onto the other.

Shattered Memories was actually my first Silent Hill game.

I wasn't allowed to play Mature games yet but I had a PSP, and you know those things are infamous for being hackable.

So I managed to find a way to play Shattered Memories. I got pretty hooked, playing it even on camping trips (not a good idea).

It's not as good as 1-3 are (I still haven't played 4) but it's still a good game and a really interesting take on the story.

It wasn't until some years later that I'd play the Wii version, being the only Wii game I've ever played that actually used the speaker on the controller in a cool way.
