@MartinHitler iirc she only wrote about 10% of the code, there was a team of like a hundred people. this is not "the code she wrote by hand" it is the code that everyone wrote by hand.

@BlinkRape the grammar lessons so far seem to be in tips before courses. maybe people are just skipping them or something? i feel like i'm getting along well so far.

@BlinkRape it's what my brother did solely and he's not too bad when it comes to Japanese. He was able to visit Japan for 2 weeks without speaking English unless he was spoken to in English so that's cool.

It does seem like it focuses way more on speaking than reading or writing symbols though. I know I'll have to have supplementary material/courses for that. Learning the words seems very similar to hearing an unfamiliar word in English and then learning its meaning. Learning the symbols is when it starts to feel like I'm actually learning a different *language* and it's a lot harder to keep track of with how many there are. As far as romanji goes though, it's pretty easy.
