Just look at AGDQ 2026 outside of the controlled Twitch chat, or the latest MAGFest and compare it to the early 2010s when these events had some reputation. These events went from being the cool nerd events, to getting mocked online, to the final stage where merely mentioning GDQ is the joke at this point because you're expected to understand it. It's a joke in the same way mentioning "Discord" usually means drama and grooming with just the mere mention of it.

You're either going to get the edgelords who want to fight everyone they see as weird in an attempt to recreate the CoD lobbies of back in the day, or you're going to get the parasites who want to retcon everything from the problematic past as actually having late-2010s+ politics. I mean shit, they've retconned Halo into being a "weird sci-fi FPS" and not the game that literally spawned Keemstar and voice chat shit talking.

The edgelords wouldn't exist if they didn't feel it's defense against having your group turn into another group with the same culture and politics IMO.
