@LukeAlmighty your average frat house party would make pizza and cocaine with a bunch of old philanthropists look like a kid's birthday.

re: alright, i actually went to the epstein files website and looked into the "pizza" thing.

@lain rationality is a dead virtue and people are addicted to drama.

i think it also might be a savior complex kind of thing, where people really get a high off of believing they are doing something right. it doesn't matter if it is actually right, that part doesn't matter as much as the feeling you get from it.

in spinning up this kind of narrative, which is a massive child trafficking ring which is larger than is even fathomable, it fuels that emotional response to the maximum level. feeling like you're a good person for giving a crackhead a dollar pales in comparison to "exposing" something like this.

re: alright, i actually went to the epstein files website and looked into the "pizza" thing.

@beardalaxy the release seems like something like a limited hangout but not to pacify people but to cause them to make claims that can’t be proven from the emails. Like you said, if you wouldn’t already know that they were pimping underage girls, you wouldn’t start thinking so from the pizza emails. Similar with stuff like “loved the torture vid”, there’s a ton of normal explanations for things like that (e.g. he got sent a video of a friend doing the ice bucket challenge), but it sounds ominous.

alright, i actually went to the epstein files website and looked into the "pizza" thing.

for said thought experiment, let me just take what i already have for this month and expand it. keep in mind, this doesn't include what any of those people might be talking about with anyone else, it would be just contained within this circle of people.

so we'll say that to get to 18 people, it's 6*3 so instead of 15 messages in a month it would be 45.

45*12 is already 540 mentions of pizza in a year. just one year. push that out to ten years. 5,400 mentions of pizza is what that would look like for me. granted, maybe i like pizza more than the average individual. it's my favorite food and i tend to go for it first for get togethers and stuff. we make a frozen pizza here every two weeks or so. you know. but still, you get what i'm trying to say.

alright, i actually went to the epstein files website and looked into the "pizza" thing.

yeah, no... i really don't think they were using "pizza" to refer to kids they were diddling. at the very least least, the vast majority of the time they weren't. in order to believe that, you have to go through so many leaps in logic. you have to BELIEVE that's what they are doing instead of basing your beliefs on what is actually going on.

there are 911 mentions of the word "pizza" right? well, i'm not going to get autistic enough to actually go through all 911 mentions and sort them or anything like that, maybe if i had a lot more free time. it would be really interesting, but i just can't bring myself to do it.

what i can tell you though are a few really important things to keep in mind:

1) there are legitimate pizza establishments mentioned, even major chains like papa john's. even fucking fat cats was in there.

2) a lot of the mentions are duplicates. again, people seem to not understand how emails work. one file in particular has tons of emails back and forth copied a bunch of times and they mention pizza a lot. this is also why i don't really want to go through everything, because even several pages deep there were so many damn duplicates.

3) a really good chunk of these are not actually being sent to or from epstein at all. people are saying shit like "i've never seen a picture of epstein eating pizza" but really, pretty much every link i clicked on didn't have epstein's name there at all. in fact, there were A LOT of names.

here's an interesting thought experiment. take, i don't know, twenty of your friends and/or family members and pull all of their texts, emails, everything from a ten year period in time. how often do you think the topic of pizza would come up? probably a shit ton. pizza is a really common food, especially for parties and get togethers. i have 15 mentions of pizza in my text messages from the last month, and that's between me and like 6 other people.

evil people are evil. absolutely. but they are not fucking marvel villains. let's focus on the actual verifiable shit and act on that instead of endlessly going around in conspiracy circles with shit that probably doesn't exist, because that's insanely reductive.

@eighthbell @sicp @Zergling_man red vox, my favorite band, is run basically at net 0. it was heavily subsidized by the lead singer's twitch stream in the earlier years. most artists lose money doing what they love. i can't speak for everyone, especially because i DO make money on it (even if only a little bit), but what matters most is that people listen and enjoy. the money is just nice to have, and obviously more money means more time to devote to it so you don't have to do other shit, but most musicians are going to keep doing it to some degree regardless.

@eighthbell @sicp @Zergling_man sidenote, what really drew me to deezer in the first place (other than hifi) was the fact you can actually upload music from your offline library into your account. was super nice for demos, japanese shit, video game music, etc.

@eighthbell @sicp @Zergling_man depends on the band with CDs, if you're buying them at a show they usually make more off of them there. that said, the ones selling CDs at shows usually don't have a whole lot of label overhead anyway because the bigger names don't really do that anymore. if you're buying CDs online though, that's still being produced by the label and they also have to factor in manufacturing and distribution. i'm sure that's another reason why labels like streaming so much, they don't have to spend nearly as much money on music releases and they get to keep just as much.

as a musician, i don't have my music on streaming sites to make money, it's for people to listen to easily. i make the most money playing live, by far. gonna be making some CDs this year to sell too, the shitty kind with a slim jewel case and sharpie marker.

oh damn, the new joji album came out just a couple days ago too.

the album is front loaded, only saved "optionz, annihilate / third eye, fysu" and "boys don't cry." tracks 2-5. those are damn good tracks though.
