More Tron Ares spoilers
Tron Ares also does get more interesting the more you know about computers and software and all that junk. The concept of forking software in particular has me VERY intrigued and it could potentially explain some elements that weren't explicitly noted, which a lot of people seem to be a little bit confused by.
This was a point that a lot of people took issue with as far as the original Tron goes. They didn't really understand computers a lot, waaaay less back then than we do now, and so there were some things that just went right over people's heads.
Basically, I believe that Ares might be a fork of Tron because the Dillinger grid is probably a fork of the ENCOM grid which contained Tron's code. Tron fights for the user, but Dillinger didn't fully understand what that meant because they rush things too fast due to their extreme amounts of funding from the US military.
I hope that is the case! I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be.
Tron Ares SPOILERS
The fact they got 3 different grids into the movie was REALLY cool. They used the city's grid structure well too and there are a bunch of top down shots that really show that off. I loved seeing the original Tron grid again with the old CGI and everything. The Sark tease at the end was sick too. There are some really cool tie ins and little hooks and secrets that I thought were really cool, but I'll leave those for you to see for now!
Tron Ares (no spoilers)
Actually really awesome.
I concur with fan sentiment I've seen online. Whatever you feel about Tron in general you'll probably also feel about this one.
Personally, I LOVE Tron and this movie was no different. I don't think it is going to be quite as formative for me as Legacy was but Legacy came out when I was a teenager and I'm a grown ass man now so I think that's certainly part of it.
I loved the movie though, it was great. My brother and cousin who saw it with me, my dad, and my uncle didn't like it as much, but they are barely Tron fans to begin with. My dad and uncle were around for the original Tron and I watched Legacy in theaters with them opening night, they both liked the film too.
All of that to say I think you'll probably be able to tell how much you like it depending on how much you've engaged with and enjoyed Tron.
I really liked how the film portrayed modern AI intertwined with Tron's overall narrative and very human focus. I also loved how it involved the previous two films and built upon them.
Leto was great in it but people are naturally going to be like "of course he was great he was playing an AI." The lead actress was pretty good but there were a few lines that were kind of stilted. The supporting cast wasn't anything special but they weren't distracting at all which is perfect. The only time I was really not a fan of the acting/writing was the very beginning of the movie, the tech bro character was a little annoying.
The soundtrack was awesome. Not anywhere close to daft punk in legacy but you can't really begin to touch that so I won't judge this OST too harshly haha.
Anyway, awesome movie, really enjoyed it. There were so many times I was grinning ear to ear from the emotional impact of seeing new, awesome stuff from my favorite movies after so long.
The theater actually had a pretty decent turn out for modern standards, and our showtime was before people got off work. We saw it in IMAX 3D and it was a little weird because the intro wasn't in 3D so I couldn't help but feel I was being gypped for the first 10 minutes or so lol. Also there was nobody receiving tickets for some reason so we had to just find the theater and help ourselves to the glasses which was a little weird.
