I get that parents do this kind of thing a lot, but whenever my parents randomly send me money or give me gifts it always makes me feel bad. Like, I didn't really do anything to deserve it. They're both more than well off so they can do that I guess, but I just feel bad taking it.

I don't know how true this is, but I read that the old Nordic people looked down upon giving gifts to people who could not give a gift back. Apparently, a large enough gift could be a declaration of war. It was basically like saying "you suck, look at all these riches you don't have but I can just throw away willy nilly."

It makes sense. I don't like feeling like a charity case. Like, I couldn't afford to get my dad anything for his birthday and he bought me two new pairs of shoes. ON HIS BIRTHDAY. Then proceeded to pay me for the time off I had to take to go to his party. Or my mom just sent me a large tip for my music, but I'm not even playing today because I'm sick and she's knows that. No amount of me saying "please, you really don't have to do that" will change their minds.
