@alex I'm just not sure what law is broken here...a lot of these people are being detained after they've committed violence. Is the car supposed to look different? IDK would that make it more palatable for you and others concerned by this?
> they should absolutely identify themselves
Hmm, well they're outfits are clearly marked, so it's easy to tell that these are federal officers. Is there something else you would like them to do? It doesn't seem like what they're doing now violates any sort of law, that I'm aware of.
> instead of going around vanning people in unmarked cars.
I would like this too. I think they might be using unmarked vehicles to avoid attacks on their vehicles, that have become commonplace on the vehicles used by law enforcement.
However, it's not illegal to use unmarked vehicles.
> do you value transparency in government?
This is a good point. I'm pretty sure these officers are going after #antifa, but it would be great to have an official explanation as to why these people are being detained. Something like, "we're arresting #antifa people because they're part of a terrorist organization" or "we're arresting people because they were committing acts of violence" would be nice.
@alex @realcaseyrollins Hmm. A political thread that doesn't make me want to throw my phone across the room. I like Mastodon.
@alex @realcaseyrollins I respect anyone who's willing to talk to people from opposing viewpoints without resorting to strawmen and name calling, even if I disagree.
@jforseth210 @alex As do I!
@judgedread @Simpadoo @alex A bit much. But they all need to be behind bars for like 10 or 15 years if they've done any violence. And still serve multi year sentences for being in the group.
@Simpadoo @judgedread @alex No but being a little more humane than going full Rodney King on em day and night
Isn't that cruel and unusual punishment?
@judgedread @Simpadoo @alex We don't do that here. Or at least, we shouldn't.
@judgedread @ThreeOneThreeChris @alex Well I say they're on the side of the state government, not the federal government.
@ThreeOneThreeChris @judgedread @alex I'm guessing they wanna spook em into falling back and standing down by making examples of them. Otherwise they'd be doing it in more places than Portland right?
Problem is these people have a martyr complex. The worse you treat them, the better they feel about it. 🤦🏾♂️ This is going to b a tough thing to fight.
@realcaseyrollins @alex based on the reports of how they were questioned and who they questioned they are just picking people at random and trying to get them too spill beans. Honestly this sorta stuff has been going on for a really long time. We even have fisa reports of active cointelpro and entrapment attempt. This stuff isnt good and just like when people were being stripped of their rights and arms through red flag laws this stuff should be paid attention to. But you fucks will never come together and smell the fucking coffee, you guys will keep casting it as bad guys and good guys - 2 parties that are actually 2 parties rather than the fact that it is 2 parties that are 1 party and the future is complete sinking to livestock of the US. People are noticing it now is all that happens. This is not uncommon for people inside political groups that actually meet in meat space in the US. People get picked up in unmarked vehicles, get questioned, get vague threats. This has been going on since at least 2008 with people i’ve known first hand.
But heres the coffee - and look at last years coffee and look at the next days coffee please start noticing it.
@alex @realcaseyrollins How is the government breaking the law? These people were witnessed participating in a riot and were then arrested.
@realcaseyrollins @alex Aren't these the same rioters who have been setting buildings on fire and shooting off fireworks at police?
But these are tricky! According to Donut Operator, theyre getting arrested because they were being violent in a crowd and the officers waited until the crowd dispersed to arrest them.
Tough part is, even tho the officer may see someone doing to crime, it can be hard to get enough info to lead to an indictment.
@realcaseyrollins @alex I think it's smart waiting for them to leave before arresting them. As we've seen, comforting the mob directly leads to more violence and therefore the risk of casualties on both sides.
