And for what? According to Eris in that thread, it's because Moon said mean words. What kind of little bitch threatens to kill you for making fun of them? Eris has a terminal illness: he thinks the internet is serious business, and that it matters if someone says mean things about you.
Every time someone's mean to me on the internet, my power only increases, and now, after running FSE for so long, I have the terrifying visage of a god and the horrifying powers to match it, but apparently, if you're mean to Eris, his e-peen shrivels and he's got to avenge himself.

@Indigo Ocean Builders is currently located in Panama who is more open to the idea. There are other projects (mostly located in the US) but Ocean Builders seems to be making the most progress.
Officially, any nation partnered with the UN can't claim territory >12km past their shores. I expect nation states and international organizations will use environmentalism as an excuse to crackdown on seasteading even though seasteads can be Eco-restorative because sea-life clings to and reproduces on floating objects. They will probably have other excuses like being tax-havens for the rich or hide-outs for terrorist organizations. The latter was probably the excuse used by the Thai navy.
But on the other hand, I believe that going after these independent floating nations or autonomous zones through force would cause a lot of backlash from land residing citizens unless the state can cover it up.
I am a regular donor to the seasteading institute. It's actually my only contribution to the libertarian cause right now, but I really see a lot of potential in this.

People have been arrested, charged, and convicted for threats for sending messages containing a pistol emoji. It's not hard to imagine a situation in which someone sends the emoji from a new phone (displayed as a water pistol), it's received on an old one (displayed as a handgun), and it's taken as a threat.

US vendors, for political reasons, decided they didn't like the idea of a realistic handgun, so for quite a few years now, it's been displayed as a water pistol, exaggerated ray gun, or similar. Older devices and more compliant fonts haven't stopped existing, so here's a character that can seem either like a deadly threat or innocent fun depending on where you send or receive it
