@moffintosh
>Libertarianism really is incompatible with democracy.

You damn right, it is! :ancap:

So they recent-ish Steven Crowder situation prompted me to write a new article for my website "Balancing Fame And Privacy". Being famous is obviously a huge privacy risk, but there are things that you can do to mitigate any risks of having details about your personal life leaked.

I love how thanks to that one person which got their Ubuntu 18.04 laptop supposedly decrypted by pretty much the State (And what police got is emails. Stuff like local files aren't mentioned, we also don't know if say swap was left unencrypted), you now have the Security Circus running around doing baseless claims that LUKS1 and PBKDF2 are broken.

@ItsSkyDragonz That's called "science fantasy". And what do you mean by "modern gay kind"?

We need more tech/magic crossover things, but not the modern gay kind, Im talkin space wizards fighting the armed forces of the world, that kind of cool stuff. I wanna see a tank get hit with a direct lightning strike, and a wizard in a horse drawn carriage whos firing fireballs get blasted by a tank.

why are so many homebrewers and mod/emulation devs turbo faggots?

this nifty software lets you connect 3rd party bluetooth controllers to the nintendo switch, which is awesome. a great feat in coding and super useful!

BUT IF YOU'RE RUSSIAN, it changes your controllers to yellow and blue because "glory to ukraine."

this reminds me of when call of duty warzone would tell you that black lives mattered every time you started a match. when you beat that shit into someone it stops being a nice little gesture and starts becoming annoying as shit and people begin to resent it.

Might as well post about myself and pin this:
Mid-late 20s, burnout almost. I feel like I wasted my life at times then I look at who I used to know and yeah it could be worse lmao.
Retrocomputing Enthusiast but not so much for skinwalking meme aesthetics, it's just modern tech is kinda shit. I have a lot of UNIX boxes and some Japanese computers.
>furfag, kinda on the fringes of the "scene" if I can say I'm even there. The fandom and scene these days pisses me off so I only say I'm one to piss off people on the fedi.
I need friends tbh
I keep having goals I need to finish tbh (but never do).

@lanodan I've only soldered once in my entire life and that was a decade ago. I do want to get back to it because it's such a useful skill, but there are dozens of skills I regret not fully learning in my youth.

I've actually never seen a laptop with hardware volume controls. The oldest laptops I ever got my hands on were pre-OSX MacBooks and I don't think they ever had hardware volume controls.

@lanodan I wish that people would still make laptops without webcams. I have no use for them. Shutters or taping your webcam doesn't solve the microphone issue.

@lanodan You better tape your webcam or use a laptop without one.

@ArdainianRight @TheMadPirate @caekislove @deprecated_ii I wonder if it is all a psy-op to get governments to fund artists. Artists have wanted to be government funded for years because most of them fail. I even had a classmate in college do a speech on why artists should be government funded.

The problem with the internet in general in 2023 is that there is no more being neutral or refusing to pick sides. You either pick a side, or you will be simping for an abusive drug addict who will cut you off when you say "No" once (the real N-Word in this part of the internet is actually no).

One day it's apolitical, the next it's shouting the magic words and saying why kids need to take HRT.

@TheMadPirate That rainbow can be interpreted that way, but it is drawn in a ZX Spectrum style and if you know anything about that old computer, a lot of games on that had rainbow colored sprites.

@beardalaxy @rasterman @ChristiJunior If you play any of the Ys games, especially the later ones, you quickly learn that it's just basically Zelda with experience points (basically the only thing that keeps Zelda from being considered a true RPG). Ys puts an emphasis on exploration just like Zelda, but has the experience points and leveling up that you expect in an action-RPG.

Also, believe it or not, Zelda and Ys were basically rival franchises for a brief time. Though, it wasn't as big as OOT vs FFVII. It was only briefly during the 1980s in Japan. Ys was scene as the PC gamer's equivalent to Zelda and vice versa. Ys III even tried to copy Zelda II by being a side-scroller.

>I think the games zelda is most comparable to outside of the action adventure genre are like, 3d platformers that feature combat.

Yeah, I can see that. I like to think Zelda influenced the non-linearity in 3D games like Super Mario 64. But then again, I think Zelda had an influence on non-linear action games period: action-adventures, action-RPGs, Metroidvanias, platform adventures, sandbox games, etc. Pretty much all of them have openly admitted to having some influence to Zelda, whether directly or indirectly.
