15-20 years ago, kids were bullied for not owning the latest game consoles, not being allowed to watch PG-13 movies, not being allowed to drink soda, or having an early bedtime (or a bedtime at all if we are talking about late elementary school or early middle school). There is always at least one kid in every elementary school class that is raised like this. I was one of them in some cases.

Not to mention that if you have multiple children, you will have them literally fight over the computer. Case in point, my older brother introduced my younger brother to Steam, Counter-Strike, and TF2 a decade ago. He was also introduced to things like Smosh and Minecraft, so he was horribly addicted. He would get into fights with my sister over the computer and she just wanted to check her Facebook. I would've been hooked on the computer as well (I just got into programming at the time), but I was forced into doing extra-circular activities.

You also have the problem of kids downloading too many freeware and free-to-play games over the Internet and eventually downloading malware on accident.

@mangeurdenuage @lina @coolboymew Schools really don't have any authority when it comes to social media. They can block it, but they really only moderate for literal threats, doxing teachers, giving answers to exams, etc. In my state at least, it is illegal to film or photograph anything on school property due to safety concerns.

Sports teams are generally more strict about social media though because it is voluntary. They can kick you off the team if you are caught sexting or talking shit about coaches or school staff. I knew someone who got kicked off of their cross-country team just for saying "nigga" on Facebook.

@coolboymew @lina @mangeurdenuage They give away free iPads and don't even bother restricting them. They can't take them away if children aren't using them properly because they are required for all students.

@caekislove @coolboymew If you don't want influencers or attention whores, then don't have any names at all, real or fake. Every online community will just be an anonymous imageboard or textboard.

@coolboymew I think it's better than what they gave out 15 years ago. Back then it was scoring perfect at ski-ball for an iPod Shuffle.
