I think the most damning revelation is that the myth that you're either beautiful OR smart, is invalid.

"At least I'm smart" is the last defense of the ugly and deformed.

The realization that deformation on the outside correlates with deformation on the inside, and these people actually are challenged, and that you can judge a book by its cover. This is just devastating.
