Here are the first test images of the Sun’s Corona taken by the ESA Proba-3 mission.

The images (one in visible light, the other in light emitted by iron atoms w/o half their electrons) were taken by the twin Proba-3 spacecraft, flying 150 m apart to create artificial total solar eclipses using the 1.4 m disc on the Occulter spacecraft.

Still in commissioning phase, Proba-3 requires ground control for precision flying.

Next: Autonomous flying and 6 hour eclipses!

This fascinating composite image, uses data from observations made on 23 May 2025 by 3 different missions:

1. The Sun’s disc (artificially coloured in yellow), captured by the extreme-UV telescope (SWAP) aboard Proba-2

2. The outer corona (in red) observed by the LASCO C2 coronagraph aboard SOHO, covering the area 2x radii away from the Sun

3. The inner corona (in green), imaged by Proba-3’s ASPIICS coronagraph covering the region from ~1.1 to 2 solar radii.

@beardalaxy I don't think his campaign is going to go anywhere, but he along with his fat, high-pitched voice, weeb friend almost made me not want to associate with video games and gaming culture because their videos were way too autistic, even for me.

@gabriel I think XMPP MUCs have the potential to replace IRC channels just for the mere fact that they at least temporarily archive old messages, instead of just only showing messages sent since you joined.

I haven't used Delta Chat, but I think the potential for it is not as a decentralized E2EE messenger, but rather as a user-friendly alternative to PGP/GPG encrypted email.

It's time for war!
What (decentralized) messenger is actually good?
For the purposes of the question your favorite client is what counts.
- Matrix (
Message cant be decrypted)
- XMPP (
Does calling work?)
- SimpleX (
Muh metadata)
- Delta Chat (
just use email lol)
- Jami (
No chat but GNU chat)
- IRC (
Get off my lawn zoomers)

God they all suck. Matrix sends your identity data to their identity server by default, even with your own home server. Loading new spaces/servers takes FOREVER. But at least encryption works (because sometimes it doesn't) even though the servers can't scale without buying their enterprise Rust package. Most of the bridges are broken or aren't consistent.

XMPP is pretty damn old. No long term chat history without some configuration work. A lot of the clients suck. Many different ways to do the same thing via components and no guarantee components are available on both servers. Encryption is bolt-on. But I guess it works and is more open than Matrix.

IRC is super old and lacks everything, but all the open source communities still use it. I honestly only get on to get support. I miss the days of FServers (which most IRC networks no longer allow). We're never going to see an IRCv2.

...haven't used any of the others.

@PalePimp @icedquinn @jeff @dirb @mangeurdenuage @thendrix the reason people do this is because dr*w does this to other people so it's necessary to teach these people.

@dirb@pleroma.dirb.xyz @mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world to be fair, the "xorg broke again" meme was not an arch linux specific issue. if anyone updates it, it breaks. i understand why the developers decided to make wayland, i just wish they didn't also act like insuferable shitstains, e.g. drew devault, child porn enthusiast and wayland developer.

With just 32 hours left to go...I can't believe it...they are less than $500 away from meeting the $55k goal, which will add in-app live streaming capabilities.

Let's make this happen. 💪🏼

"New mouse, who dis?"

(I'll write up how to do this later!)
