@beardalaxy If a series started out as an overglorified tech-demo, (which Star Fox was) then sadly it's shelf-life is finite and limited.

@phnt @icedquinn @fish @Deplorable_Degenerate @cy @sampler @strypey @light I can't believe we're this long gone from the early 00s era of the Internet that we need to reiterate that "Lurk Moar" was an important netiquette that was more or less true to most random communities you'd find around

Part of me wonders if it weren't for GameGate, the culture war, etc, how many of these political e-celebs and online commentators (real ones not CIA plants) would've followed their path into being a gamedev, comic artist, etc. It seems like a lot of them were originally going down that path, but got distracted by SJWs, the alt-right, GamerGate, etc and realized that that was their calling. I bet many of them are pissed by now realizing it was all a psyop and that politics has ruined their lives.

:boost_ok: Are you an indie game developer? Would you like your game localized in French? Hire me!

* I go beyond simple translation and try my best to match tone and cultural references for a francophone audience
* I hold queer and especially non-binary representation to utmost importance and will use non-standard writing forms and neopronouns to bend the strongly binary gendered French language into respecting and communicating your characters' gender identities
* I pay attention to UI design and try my best to make sure text fits the spaces it's in and is appropriate with its context
* As this is not an occupation I depend on, I am willing to discuss rates to fit your budget and remain accessible

Most Americans don't care about liberty one way or the other; it doesn't enter into the equation.

Just look at covid.

@mr_penguin Teen depression has been talked about long before social media was a thing. I think you can attribute to hormonal imbalances (like you said), dating drama, constantly comparing oneself to others, and adults treating them like shit.

The latter is extremely important as teens were respected much better in per-industrial times than they are now. Before compulsory schooling was a thing, most teenagers were apprentices and were treated with respect, now they are locked in a building for 8 hours a day, constantly dealing with social and academic pressures.

"At the core of the social media ban is emerging research indicating that for some teens, extended time spent on social media is associated with depression and anxiety. A 2022 study found nearly half of adolescents reported social media making them feel worse about their body image."

umm your literally surveying a population that fills out these questionnaires by making faces with the scantron (ok, not sure if that is something still in use, but while it's dated it's literally what I saw EVERY KID in my 9th grade, so about 14, class doing when required to take a survey to this end in the late 1990s early 2000s). The point is the survey data is likely completely and utterly inaccurate in the first place.

However even if it wasn't there is no evidence to suggest that this is anything other than normal teenage behavior. Hormonal changes, etc. and the implication of the wording of the question is what leads to youth to whatever degree there is anything behind the question to answering yes when there is ZERO evidence of correlation between the two.

One is likely to be depressed, not know the cause, and associate it with their phones when asked such a question about it being the reason for their depression.

Basically there is ZERO scientific accuracy to these surveys and properly done research is EXTREMELY rare.

This reminds me of other "studies" where researchers over decades repeatedly used incarcerated populations. I think it was something like gay men who were incarcerated or something of that nature. Why use incarcerated gay men? Because gay men have been discriminated against for generations and so no non-incarcerated gay man would fill out such a survey. The obvious problem is that you then wrongly conclude all gay men are sick criminals.

@xianc78 The hard reality IMO, is that it's very hard to deprogram people who spent a decade or so online balls deep in internet bullshit, especially if they will drift from one allegiance to another as a defensive tactic.

Case in point: the reason everyone laughs at the idea of "trolls remorse" is that the same guy who mopes about how some website he used to post at is a "hate site" will use his tactics for the other side even as most of the people from said site of that era grew up and settled down.

@Zergling_man I don't even know what this is. Is it some sort of MUD?

Also reminder that older online communities handled politics much better. The few non-political forums that allowed political discussion generally had some special subforum to have heated debates. Everyone was expected to come in with an open mind and discussed the craziest of ideas possible, from fringe ideologies to the craziest of conspiracy theories. You had everyone across the political compass participate, and those who couldn't handle it didn't have to participate, and generally those subforums were limited to VIP members (or those who have been members of the forum for awhile) so you didn't have users who only join to participate in those subforums.

With the whole SPLC thing, I was wondering if we can go back to having (mostly) apolitical communities to discuss about hobbies....then I realized that we are still living in crazy, uncertain times regardless, and sunk-cost fallacy is a thing so probably not for a while.
