birth defects are a spectrum. sex is not a spectrum. the way sexual reproduction works is there are 2 gametes, one from male and female.

2 sets of chromosomes combine, one from the mother and one from the father. under normal circumstances, you have inherited one of each.

anything else is a birth defect.

Biological sex is defined by gamete size, not chromosomes, and there are only two kinds of gamete, eggs and sperm.

Nonbinary as a gender identity only exists if a nonbinary gamete exists.

This is important to clarify because the genderqueer brigade will always bring up intersex ppl and XXYs and whatnot, but a proper understanding of biological sex blows all that shit up.

There do exist irregular sets of chromosomes and irregular genitalia, but there is no gamete other than eggs and sperm, so such irregularities do not serve any kind of nonbinary reproductive function.
