@lanodan Install .NET Core and writing indie games in C#. It's the most Unix thing you can do.

re: Old Mobile Phones

@okabe_rintarou I'm honestly more of a fan of PDAs. LGR has reviewed a couple and they seem to be really comfy. I just like to think what it would be like living in the early 2000s and experiencing Internet and computing in the palm of your hands.

My Dad owned a couple of Palm PDAs. I always thought they were the coolest things in the world.

@okabe_rintarou
>Do you have any fond feelings towards it?

Not really. I really wanted a smartphone, but my parents couldn't afford a data plan at the time. I really didn't take advantage of the additional features either. It was mainly for calling my parents to be picked up after extra-circular activities.

Though now, that I think about it, I am getting pretty nostalgic for it's music player. It didn't do much but it's bass filter gave me a greater appreciation for baselines in music.

>Were there any themes (the orange theme in the photos is a bit hard on my eyes)?

They only had the orange or green theme initially, but a firmware update later changed the orange theme to blue for whatever reason.

>Did you try to browse on the internet with it?
No because I didn't have a data plan and I think without one they charge something like 10 cents per megabyte. I did use the social network app but it was really just a front-end for Facebook's and Twitter's post via SMS feature.

>I couldn't find any info on the operating system that ran with

It's probably some custom firmware just like most other feature phones. I think it ran Java when it came to the downloadable apps (which I never used and were probably just games). It got the job done. Since, you're most likely not downloading a bunch of stuff on there, you wouldn't expect it to slow down.

I ended up breaking the micro-usb port on the thing so I wasn't able to charge it anymore. I was actually phoneless for a few months. It was really bad because I started driving around the same time, so I had no way of making an emergency call if were to get in an accident. It also sucked because I also used the thing as a flash drive. I used to write games in Windows batch files and I would store them on the phone because I had nowhere else to store them, but now they are lost to time.

@crunklord420 What about those videos which are "<insert movie title> here but with x"?

Gave myself 5 days to make a proof of concept fedi client to fit my special needs and quell the itch of not making it sooner.

Server rendered HTML with phoenix liveview providing free dynamic updates if JS is available or wanted.

The main and only feature i wanted from this endevour was a feed that appends new posts down, as it provides a natural free cache of old posts with a pleasant reading experience as opposed to prepending new posts, since the feed doesn't have to shuffle around or pause to deal with the inevitable rerenders.

Only the TWKT, threads and user timelines are implemented, but apart from notifications past the anchor new post box, i'm not sure there's more features it's _really_ missing that's not just filling out more templates with api buttons.

Well apart from file uploads, or custom emoji rendering, or auth...

Tried @alex 's https://gitlab.com/soapbox-pub/ueberauth_mastodon plug, but i failed to set it up in time, couldn't glean where i could have made a mistake looking at the patron project either, it just did nothing.

No public code release unless someone asks, since it's better off as a template to start making your own client, than using as is.

Hopefully it turns to something good by the time @p releases revolver for public trial, and there's a backend that's not waiting for an absent father to bless their fork or a serendipity mess of honks, chonks, donks, honkers, xonkers, zonkers and doovers that's best viewed from a 2015 or later Thinkpad X1 Carbon with 2560x1440 screen running OpenBSD and chromium at 150% scaling with the dwm window manager so that the main menu to lines up just right.

Good morning fedi! :blobgoodmorning:

So I awake to see GoFundMe is being the usual leftist TRASH.

"we will work with organizers to send all remaining funds to credible and established charities verified by GoFundMe."

Fucking thieves, KILL THEM.

Stealing from the truckers, I swear this should NOT end peacefully now.

@coolboymew Yeah. One model was in SM64's model format. Apparently, it was from when the game was running on an unmodified SM64 engine.

@coolboymew I'm really only good at abstracting text, but that's something anyone can do with a hex editor. AFAIK the only way to abstract models (regardless of format) from N64 ROMs is via a plug-in for the 1964 emulator and even then you can only abstract models that have been loaded to RAM while the game is running. I can only assume that each N64 game stores their models differently, which means that you also need to study the model format for each game.

I also think that analyzing N64 ROMs can be a pain because being 3D games on a cartridge also means that they are most likely compressed in some form. I know SM64 was compressed in a common compression algorithm but there were a lot of creative compression algorithms throughout the N64s life, so reverse engineering those is going to be tricky.

@lanodan That's racist to any silicon-based lifeform that may be out there in the universe.

@coolboymew They only show affection levels for the bachelorettes. All other NPCs have it too but it's never seen.

>I do wonder if there's a editor for it already tho'

The game's ROM hasn't been analyzed until recently (I don't know why). So, I doubt it.

I actually tried view the ROM in a hex editor myself once just to look for unused text, but I realized that the game's text isn't even in ASCII. It's either compressed or was written in some proprietary/unconventional text system.

No one is listening to me, as usual, everyone's all corona this, masks that. That shit is over, they lost, it's crumbling, and AS I HAVE BEEN SAYING they are coming after guns next. Local mayor started today, Biden's been pushing since day one, it's coming next.

@coolboymew I think it would be really useful for Harvest Moon 64. That game never tells you anything about character affection, completion, etc. With that, you could just dump the save file and analyze it in a hex editor.
