Men and women behave differently because of both of them having different survival mechanism.
For men is "fight or flight", so we bond by testing each other out all the time. We give each other shit because we wanna know if the other guy will quip with a snarky comaback or if he will retreat and be silent. Women reactly badly to that, because of risk aversion, they work in the opposite way. For women, the survival mechanism is "tend or befriend", so women will smile and be polite in public but backstab each other in private , the objective is test how much she will be able to befriend other women to avoid being attacked or tend to other women to have them defend her. So having a women being in the middle of two guys giving each other shit stresses her; she can't use the tend or befriend mechanism nor she knows how to react ( with very few exceptions like like an only daughter with lots of brothers ).
Men in a heavily female work environment is the opposite case. He has to be constantly walking on eggshells so he doesn't "offend" any of the girls, he also has to dodge the constant backstabbing from the girls nor to mention the passive aggression and the gossiping. As such, his female boss and coworkers will constantly use soft power i.e. veiled threats, DARVO, guilt tripping to keep "in check". He is not allowed to fight ( tthe girls will gang up against him ) nor he is allowed to flight ( the girls will use shame tactics and tell him to "man up and take it" ).
