HTML5's <video> tag should've killed YouTube. Part of the reason why YouTube got so popular was because people were tired of having to install multiple plug-ins just to watch videos. Some websites required Windows Media Player, others required QuickTime, others required Flash, others required RealPlayer. YouTube, using a flash-based video player at the time allowed pretty much anyone to watch their videos because almost every Internet user had Adobe Flash installed.

I'm pretty sure this Invidious situation might be resolved, but that doesn't change the fact that if you make videos you shouldn't rely on YouTube. PLEASE consider uploading to other sites, including hosting them on your own.

No random open source application, I do not want to join your Discord channel for support.

There's this really cool technology called hypertext markup language, and if you use it for your documentation another piece of amazing technology called a search engine can help me find the answer I'm looking for

And the real magic is you only have to answer it once and the answer helps anyone. You don't have to answer the same question every day. This frees you up for more fun development

what do “hate speech” and “disinformation” have in common? They’re both mechanisms by which the totalitarian bad guys can justify suppressing dissident political speech. That’s their only purpose.

[Announcement]

As a matter of transparency, please be aware that Youtube's legal team contacted us.

See github.com/iv-org/invidious/is for more details.

Also, in the event where the main repository was taken down, be aware that our code is backed up at gitea.invidious.io/iv-org

I hate wokeness, but parents should not be including children in their political activism. Especially when facing off against violent groups like #Antifa.

Having children anywhere near #Antifa is pure, concentrated foolishness.

I've never used Reddit, but I don't get how people can still defend it at this point.

>Used to be (mostly) open-source, but closed it's source code back in 2017
>Used to be free speech friendly until around 2015 when they started banning subs like /r/FatPeopleHate
>Is known to be a cesspool for center-to-far-left, atheist, hipster, "I LOVE SCIENCE", consumer types
>Karma and gold creates groupthink and elitism
>Is now overcharging for their APIs

I really hope that the site crashes and burns like Digg, but the site is more popular than Digg ever was. However, I am happy that this is receiving massive backlash, at the very least I hope it severely cripples them.

In the meantime, if you want to host your own communities, get an actual forum. Hosting is dirt cheap and auto-installers make hosting forums easy. And people still use forums, btw. Dwarf Fortress has always had their main discussions on their own forums and they are still active to this very day.

reddit displaced digg when digg started making absurd changes to squeeze more money out of their userbases, alienating everyone

I wish more people understood the issues surrounding Julian Assange. His extradition would likely be murder, although I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being reported as a suicide. He's already been tortured [psychologically] for over a decade at this point, and our government has considered assassination. To think that he should be handed over to the people who had their crimes exposed by him and that is somehow justice is peak absurdity.

Sadly when I mention Assange to people (not fedi people, real people), most don't really know who he is. They recognize the name, and have heard of wikileaks, but they don't really know the relationship or the circumstances of his living status. It is reported on, but usually there is some other stupid thing that is way more click bait worthy to distract people from paying too much attention.

I’m now reporting any job postings on LinkedIn or Indeed for discrimination if they require Covid shots

Fuck these companies

@Nelenese@shitposter.club It's not over, the invidious team is pretty based and they'll make sure it continues.

I like the "You know what you have to do." in the issue.
