@dcc @sysrq @charlie_root @kirby @splitshockvirus Not a fan of Wayland; I'd rather stick with X.
Anyway, it looks like Wayland's team isn't super interested in delivering working software. Basic shit is still broken and they have had nearly 15 years to deliver something that works. It's another
freedesktop.org clusterfuck. What works, apparently, are new and exciting ways to draw an xterm: even if they had fixed the basic shit, there's no network protocol, which was a dealbreaker for me even if I had no problem with the way they fucked window managers.
Incidentally, last time I checked this list of complaints some random guy had about Wayland, the Rust Evangelism Strike Force had overtaken the thread and there had been months of daily arguments:
https://gist.github.com/probonopd/9feb7c20257af5dd915e3a9f2d1f2277 . It looks like they are back to arguing about Wayland instead of Rust. (It must be tiring to inject discussions of Rust into every technical conversation on the internet and then maintain all of them. I can usually only barely keep up with my notifications here on FSE, I can't fathom keeping up with a million comment threads across a million sites.)
I do not know anything about Arcan, but this looks like another attempt to subsume the entire computer:
https://arcan-fe.com/2021/09/20/arcan-as-operating-system-design/ . (They also spelled "Google" by using an image of eyeballs for the "oo":
https://s0.wp.com/wp-content/mu-plugins/wpcom-smileys/twemoji/2/svg/1f440.svg . Automatic point deduction. Sorry, I don't make the rules.) I skimmed the rest of the manifesto, it doesn't look super interesting right now, maybe something to check back on in five years.
