The only thing the current year internet climate of "if you use the wrong pronouns or disapprove of my internet identity I will throw a fit" has done is create a culture of fakeness, where disapproval is explicitly disallowed. As a result, the disapproval shifts underground, be it into the Kiwi Farms, the "alt-fedi"/"dark fedi" instances of the world, and to the private Discord and Telegram channels. Hell sometimes it even goes on in a hidden "mod channel" in the same Discord server you're on.

That's when you find out you're being ghosted, and as Chloe Sagal learned at the very end even being trans won't save you from this treatment. Why do you think a common accusation online is to yell at people and accuse them of being farmers?

The guy with the "progress" flag and he/him pronouns is really shitting on you in a private chat and calling you crazy. You don't know it until he goes from talking to you to holding a conversation on the level of a Postal 2 NPC while saying online, or double checking when you post.
