Honestly this shit is why my first commercial game has no code repository of any kind and why that might be the official policy of my studio. Our games are FOSS as in you are free to share and/or modify the code, but we don't accept any collaboration with the outside world. I'm sick of the drama of the FOSS community and I don't want Ioncom to be a part of it.

@xianc78 > https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/Community/issues/2184
> the entire offchute thread is just the "everything is political" copes

this is, largely, why i took so goddamn long to ever make a codeberg account at all.

It looks like Codeberg just banned all cryptocurrency related projects, but it was to be expected, given the CEOs relation with Drew DeVault and them taking more far-left stances as of late.

I guess there is simply no viable alternative to GitHub unless you self-host. Maybe the Git-over-Nostr solutions would take off, but I am sick and tired of people bringing unrelated politics into the FOSS movement.

Rest in Peace Mr. John C. I haven't listened as much lately, but I did enjoy the show for a good long while.

and.. OMG Why is there a fucking donation request at the bottom?! Even in death the grifting does not end!

I can't be alone in thinking "The Linux Experiment" YouTuber is a moron. No, no. I know I'm not alone cause the video was sent to me by another developer thinking the same thing.

So end-users submitting bug reports to an upstream project (like GNOME) rather than a distribution's bug tracker without first verifying if the issue exists in the GNOME project's version of the software is NOT new nor correct. This is literally an "issue" as old as time itself.

I find it humorous that some developers today don't understand how free software works. Linux Mint for example is shipping an old version of GNOME calendar more or less. I get there are some add-ons for display, but it's still essentially GNOME's calendar program, old, but GNOME calendar none-the-less.

For instance:

"drop the package entirely and let users get it from us"

This completely overlooks the reason users download a distribution or this distribution in the first place. It's geared at those wanting stuff that is going to work and continue working. Not some app that is constantly being updated with new features and as a consequence breaking things every other day.

Some users like Arch users do little more than play with GNU/Linux and want that too, but that's not Linux Mint. The vast majority of folks using your software want stuff that is stable and continues working not major changes breaking things every other day. Major changes SHOULD NOT OCCUR until major new releases. Only security updates.

It's not Linux Mint (for the most part) that is doing it wrong. It's you not understanding free software.

The part of the complaint that has a tiny bit of merit is naming, but it is still a bit ridicules given it is mostly GNOME calendar still, just old.

slop in free software isn't the same as most other ethical problems, i can fork it. it isn't like "GET THE JAB OR DIE". i can well use some 2 years old checkout and be happy, or something completely different.

i don't like the AI stuff for reasons but if you don't force me or shit on me for not using it, it's fine.

@dalias @Ember I am once again reminded of the Yahoo blogpost that nobody else seems to remember, about how they completely banned UI overhauls - you could present a new UI design, sure, but you'd *also* have to present a ton of incremental steps to get from the current design to the new one, because you were never allowed to change more than one tiny, easy-to-adjust-to thing at a time.

If you've ever wondered why so many older people kept using Yahoo services until the heat death of the universe, well, there you go

of course that's also the big problem with the Xbox online being centralized vs the PS2. On the PS2, all you have to do is write a cheat code to bypass the DNAS check (since not all games have working DNAS support) and then usually change the DNS to redirect whatever gamespy/EA domains to your private server.

On the Xbox you have the centralized online backend.

the ps2 vs xbox scenes are fascinating
the PS2 scene literally keeps bringing back EA games and other shit that had obscure online networks
the Xbox Insignia guys are still stuck on later revisions of OG XBL and EA games and just post on their discord IT'S DONE WHEN IT'S DONE

You thought flock was bad? You haven't seen nothing yet. There is a reason RMS doesn't own a cell phone (and I stopped using one too, if you need a device get a Pine Phone, throw Mobian on it, disable the modem via dip switch, and get a USB wifi adapter for internet):

"US Police Now Armed With Israeli Spy Vans Simulating Mobile Phone Towers"

"If you thought Flock was bad check out Falconet. Falconet from Israeli company Cognyte serves as a cell tower simulator that intercepts cell phone data from all devices within range. Police mount these systems in Tahoes so the vehicles can collect information while driving through areas without any direct interaction with targets. This mobile approach generates ongoing records of phone locations and communications for everyone nearby rather than only suspects, which creates comprehensive movement profiles and bypasses traditional warrant requirements under the Fourth Amendment. I’ve been to flea markets and rummage events but never have I seen so many game offerings. So many vendors with a variety of gaming and gaming related merch to sell. I literally could’ve spent all day bargain hunting. They indeed had EVERYTHING. 😱 #gamer #gaming #videogames #vidyagames

It's not inflation. It's depreciation.

The founders knew - as Benjamin Franklin explained - printing too much money, makes it worth. less.

He said "The depreciation of the American paper is solely owing to its excessive quantities"
