Good evening, I’ve just deployed the first beta version of Mostr: a bridge between Nostr and the Fediverse.

More info here: https://soapbox.pub/blog/mostr-fediverse-nostr-bridge/

Source code: https://gitlab.com/soapbox-pub/mostr

The bridge is an ActivityPub server and Nostr client, written from the ground up in TypeScript with Deno. It generates RSA keypairs and pubkeys deterministically by combining the username with a SECRET_KEY. Sqlite is needed to store a reverse-lookup of Nostr to AP IDs, but otherwise it mostly works off the Web Cache API and the Nostr relay. I wrote nearly everything and gained lots of knowledge about cryptography.

Enjoy.

And just a warning for anyone wanting to get into the WonderSwan, despite having a color display, the screen on the WonderSwan Color is actually worse than the original monochrome one, but not that many monochrome games were released for the system.

Consider getting a modded WSC with a backlight or get the SwanCrystal (which is pretty expensive).

I actually do also have some Gundam game and some baseball game but they are not in that picture.

For anyone who is curious, here is a collection of my Wonderswan stuff. I own a monochrome WS and a WonderSwan Color. I don't have many games for it because they're expensive. I do have a Flash Masta flash cart so I do get to experience the games that have been translated.

The ironic thing about feminism is that it's anti-woman. Instead of letting women be themselves (which feminism is allegedly all about), it encourages them to suppress their femininity and try to be more masculine. It shames women for being feminine or adopting traditional gender roles even if it makes them happier, which it usually does as studies have shown.

In worst cases, it makes women afraid of men and vice versa. In that case the MGTOW movement is just as bad.

It's nothing but a tool to divide us. There is nothing liberating about it.

US financial support for Ukraine has already exceeded the annual amount of US military spending on the war in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2010.

To add to that, the Mastodon userbase is very interesting because it's "rules for thee but not for me".

Which is why there's splits between the userbase with adding in basic features Twitter has, because they're of the mindset that the feature existing is why harassment happens. It's the big tech mindset and they can get away with it for one major reason; they own the show or they're the biggest guys in town. Quote posting (exists on Soapbox and variations do on Misskey/Pleroma), a half-decent search function, and more are why Twitter users harass each other and not the fact that Twitter users are psychotic.

This has two major consequences; the first is that Twitter users come in asking where are the basic features and leave when they run into the Mastodon community whining at them for daring to ask. The second is that the other fedi instance devs don't share this POV and they want as many features as possible to fuck Twitter into the ground, and so Misskey/Pleroma have more features than Mastodon does.

In other words Eugen has the big tech cattle herder or college "reducing harassment" journal writer mindset, while the other guys on the fedi have the "new cool startup tech company" mindset. Eugen is no different than a Google employee explaining why breaking the website stops Nazis. The difference is very real.

First of all, I'd recommend that you use or self host a Pleroma instance instead if you want to avoid the bubble.

>Why does *the mastodon bubble™* seem to be extremely allergic to anything doing any kind of automatic processing, like search or sorting posts by stars?

Anyhow, it all comes down to privacy, or an illusion of it. As fedi users tend to be on the fringes of the internet, they want an idea that they're more private here than on Twitter (where you can find posts to cancel people from 5 years ago easily). When Mastodon added in trending tags to the site, this caused a giant backlash from the idea guys orbiting Mastodon who claimed "this is literally harassing me". Reading this article in particular gives you a peek into the Mastodon bubble mindset as well; they love the idea of writing on their door a sign that says "MOM KEEP OUT" which she ignores anyway.

Of course this is in fact an illusion. Case in point; deletion requests. Messages are only deleted on the fedi if an instance tells another "hey delete this post", and many instances decide to deliberately reject these. Or infamously how DMs are not private due to the fact that each instances admins can read them (but they were never on forums either and same with Twitter). This has led to many instances restricting searches to logged in users since some people use websites with less broken searches such as Pleroma instances to do the searching, and needless to say this causes admins to sometimes ban people who are using their sites deliberately to dox people.

>And why does the critique of such projects regularly end in personal attacks against their creators?

It's the Tumblr and Twitter mindset, see what happened to Zamii070 as a great example of how that hivemind behaves. A few years ago they bullied a fanartist for drawing a character "wrong" to the point where she wound up in the hospital for a suicide attempt. Real or not, the attempt caused this behavior to be brought to the limelight, and then absolutely nothing changed afterwards. It also didn't start with Tumblr as this sort of behavior happened on places like SomethingAwful, Reddit, and more.

This tends to get results because many people, especially older or less internet savvy, will buckle under pressure.

Furthermore, in left wing internet circles once you're canceled you're forever ruined. No really. I mentioned this in a DM with someone, but those people never accept that you've changed. Once you're problematic you're always problematic, and if you try to get on their good side your past is just blackmail to them. So having the ability to wash away your sins or hide them and rebrand is nice.
