@shebang And you become so efficient at it, it's amazing. My current laptop has contents in the Downloads/ folder that is originally from a laptop I had 3 laptops and 10ish years ago migrated along multiple installs if different flavours of operating systems. It's glorious!

@SirHendrick This image makes an interesting point. Although I think heating or cooling a small cabin doesn't drain the life out of a battery as fast as it does driving for 3 hours.

A static vehicle doesn't consume much energy, it's mostly acceleration that pricey, maintaining speed is cheap compared to that. So slow moving traffic and constantly moving and breaking is what is going to fuck it over.

@shebang He can block a door With his body if the intruders try to escape.

@VD15 @matrix
The issue is the pricing and the network traffic that will wreck his wallet. Compared to GCE and AWS its cheaper, but not by much. As far as I can tell B2 is the cheapest in terms of storage and transfer.

@matrix
Dumping it in some online storage/cloud provider might work, but it will fuck you over on the network traffic bill.

backblaze.com/b2/cloud-storage This is cheap. It will set you back $90 in transfer costs, but with storage for a couple of days it may be cheaper than buying a 9TB harddisk.

@icedquinn
I've worked with SaltStack in 2015 and onward because at the time with salt-cloud it was the only free provisioning and configuration management option out there. If I wanted to provision stuff in AWS I had to use Enterprise version of Puppet, Chef and Ansible Tower. Salt with Salt-Cloud was the only option that provided all the things I needed out of the box.

The thing that bugged me about SaltStack was that every upgrade was a chore. A lot went well, but other parts required on-machine intervention to fix something. It was annoying AF.

I gave up when VMWare bought them for some reason back in 2020, but by that time Terraform was the industry standard.

I'll take a look at Pulumi. By the sounds of it its going to be perfect to provision my NixOS boxes. ;-)

@icedquinn At this rate Terraform can provision nearly everything. Not even kidding here. Even stuff like DataDog and PagerDuty gets provisioned.

I need to learn some more k8s stuff for work, but I am looking at Nomad because everybody is using k8s. ;-)

@matrix Asking a chick to be funny. Good luck with that.

@shebang So it seems. I don't have much with Facebook, nor with VR. So I can explain my lack of excitement regarding fb-meta.

The ARK (ARMA3) Halloween session was glorious this year! Fighting of hordes of Zombies in a dark forest, fighting undead tigers in the jungles, as WH40K Imperial Guard purging heretics on some shithole planet, go into the zone to secure, contain and protect assets. It was all great and am looking forward to Halloween sessions next year!

But the most comfy moment in between all the gratuitous violence we managed to setup a campfire, decorate and play appropriate guitar music. This a comfy bonding experience. I still cherish that moment.

Are you from the European, North-America or Africa continent and like to play ArmA 3 on Saturday evening/afternoon. Jump into the fray with us! ark-group.org/
