I thow this is just one example, and that there is always an opposite, but I still remember when I was learning to work with Blender on my toaster laptop, and I needed Cinema 4D in school.
Just to find out that it was less stable, 30 times slower, lacked the fast key layout and most importantly.... it did not even ran on my laptop.
And by less stable, I mean I saved a model I worked on for hours, and loaded a different one. 
never again.
