I always get calles cinic and a conspiracy theorist, but at the end of the day, there are only 2 options out there.

1) Elites with a lot of power are malevolent psychopaths
2) Elites with a lot of power have a decision making abilities of an 8 year old, thanks to a combination of corruption, apathy and stupidity.

Neither of these is pleasant, but it's hard to argue against either of them. At the end of the day, both are unprovable.
