My current dentist said to me "oh, then it's going to hurt a lot" in a joking manner when I refused the medicine drug.
So, I knew he was not only aware and sharp enough to joke, but also not afraid to say the literally the dumb truth. (you would be surprised just how many dentists will lie to you even about this point.)

I would say, that people should know by now, that literally vast majority of medicine is potent enough to come with a micro-risk of ruining your life completely.
But... We just spent 2 fucking years under a total disinfo bombardment telling, that medications are 100% safe, so doctors should be viable for not mentioning this risc, and go straight to the pike if they confirm that delusion.
