But who cares about me. What’s more important, what paints a picture of how horrible your ilk is, is what this insult means to YOU. You act like you’re so sensitive and harmless and delicate and perfectly good and proper in every way, and yet when you’re given the chance to write someone off, “dehumanize”and “otherize” them (to use your ilk’s language) you take it to the maximum extent you can imagine. Any damage inflicted on the enemy faction is permissible, or even obligatory. You have no higher wisdom, you have no empathy (what you call “empathy” is more properly called sympathy, and for the people you feel this sympathy for, you do nothing but condescend to). You’re just a nasty nasty lot.

This is what makes me hate people like you. By your own standards, your own values, you’re just nasty. Paint it up with any excuse you want (i.e. “oh but they’re BAD PEOPLE it’s ok to be mean to them!”), you’re just nasty.

Here's one absolute truth I know about the fedi.

Bigots have more support and acceptance than progressive, and forward-thinking people do. There is a reason so many Black and Brown instances have come and gone, but the domains on many blocklists are so consistent.

No technology on Earth can fill that gap.

With so many new people coming in, the fedi is at a crossroads and needs to decide what kind of culture it wants.

Either it's going to be a space where bigots feel comfortable, or it's going to be a place that actively supports new and fresh ideas where people from any background can come and find community.

It cannot be both.
