The God's Disdain demo has been updated to version 1.1.0, which fixes a bug with missing files and adds EXP sharing for the party. Feedback is appreciated!

@Jens_Rasmussen @Alex I've got EXP share working now in a way that I think works pretty well. I'll be updating the demo with this change in a little while.

@Jens_Rasmussen @Alex I won't get into the formulas or anything, but I believe they would end up being roughly equivalent when you take all things into consideration. The enemies have EXP stats as well, so it isn't solely about the damage you deal to them. Enemies with more HP have higher EXP stats, so you can deal more damage to them over time and gain more EXP from it. I think it would mostly come down to "time spent fighting a higher level enemy" versus "time spent looking for lower leveled mobs."

@Jens_Rasmussen @Alex It could be possible. I'll have to look into it a little more. For now, I have tweaked the Mage and Warrior classes again just a little bit and boosted the amount of damage that the tier 1 and 2 spells do. I'm also thinking about adding in EXP share and then lowering the amount of EXP gained overall so that it helps smooth over the EXP disparity.

From a design perspective, the intended reason for damage/healing to gain EXP instead of it being split between the party at the end of a battle is to help soften the grind. When you level up you heal a bit, so it can help you in combat especially if you're being tactical with it. If you die in combat outside of a boss battle, you'll be able to revive at a church and keep all of your gained EXP. So that system isn't going away, it's just a lot more difficult to balance than I originally thought it would be.

@Alex That is more or less how EXP works. The mage has always been very difficult to balance because they start off fairly weak but by the mid-game they deal much more damage when gaining access to spells that hit multiple targets. Their balance is the thing I am most worried about. It is definitely something that is going to take more time to tweak and I wish I could have had more people testing it initially.

@Alex Thank you for the report! A bugfix is now live that will fix it. A lot of files were deleted to keep the file size of the demo down and this one (alongside others) were mistakenly deleted. Hopefully this patch will smooth that over! Please report any others.

If the BGM feels a little too overpowering, you can always lower it in the settings. The balance between the voices and the BGM have been subject to a lot of tweaks and it's a little hard to strike it perfectly for everyone, but I'll continue to look into it.

Still working on beta 1.0.5. I'll be releasing it soon-ish. Just trying to get another playthrough in before I do, but it will at the very least be released before February. It is, so far, the largest patch so far in terms of just the amount of things that have been fixed/changed. 26 items atm.

There are some softlocks it fixes, but none that are particularly egregious. If I find something that's REALLY BAD then I'll push the update forward immediately.

There is now a native Linux version of God's Disdain! I'm still looking for testers, so if anyone is interested in helping out send a message and I'll get you a key.

For those who are unaware, God's Disdain is a ~25 hour non-linear RPG. It utilizes 2D graphics and features a rich world with lots of quests, unique NPCs, and dungeons. Inspirations are mainly Dragon Quest and Elder Scrolls.

God's Disdain launches March 14th (9 AM Pacific) and will be free to play! It has no DRM and no file encryption.

It is a passion project that started development in October of 2015, and I am very excited for more people to play it!

The beta for God's Disdain is ready! I'm going to be collecting user info for testing now, so please sound off in the comments or send a DM if you'd like to participate!

Requirements:
1. Steam account
2. Windows PC (OS version 7+)

Expectations:
1. Bug reports
2. Combat balance feedback
3. General feedback
4. (Optional) Game session journals

You will be able to make content about the game (streams, videos, screenshots) as long as you clarify in a place that is clearly visible that the game is still in beta testing.

Testing will primarily occur in the RPG Maker Web forums topic for the game. If you have an RPG Maker Web account, that is the preferred method of reporting. However, if you're on the fediverse then simply tagging this account (@aftermidnight) or sending a DM will suffice. Patch notes will be posted and maintained on RPG Maker Web: forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.p

You will receive your Steam key for the game within the next couple of weeks. Please keep in mind that as the game is free, I cannot promise much in the way of incentive for testing and I understand that it might be a lot to ask. However, your name will appear in the credits if you provide any feedback at all!

If there are any more questions you have, feel free to reach out!

@souldessin It looks like a workaround is to put the links in a comment, but I unfortunately can't pin the comment without being verified lol.

@souldessin Unfortunately, YouTube has a policy now where you can't link to outside pages unless you are verified, which requires a bit more info than I'd like to give them at the moment. An alternative is just having your account around long enough with enough watch time or something like that, so it's going to be a bit of a waiting game.
