personally i'm just not a fan of therapy in general, but i've never really had a good experience with therapy so maybe i'm just not the kind of person who it is meant for.

@Hoss @Mackiavelli13 @sunshinetadpole @lamp that's kind of the nice thing about the internet, for all its faults. at least you can get things off of your chest. there are probably pedophiles that have the same feeling about it, it makes for a good outlet and just talking to people about stuff can really change the way you think about things or your perspective on things, as long as people are being respectful. especially talking to people that have gone through similar issues and actually understand what you're going through, because it is unlikely that a therapist or your parents will truly understand the gravity of whatever is pulling down on you even if they want to try their best to help.

@Hoss @Mackiavelli13 @lamp if you went to a therapist and said "i'm a pedophile" and they asked if you were under distress or causing other people distress, then you were just like "nah, some guy told me to come to therapy because i'm attracted to children, but i don't think i'm gonna' do anything about it and it doesn't affect my life at all," they'd probably just send you home and wonder why you were there in the first place. it isn't a problem unless it causes problems.

although i will agree that i get annoyed when people make the fact that they are a pedophile their whole personality, much like gay people who do that or people putting their pronouns in their bio. that behavior is kind of degenerate, i wish people would just act like human beings instead of caricatures. i do think that a lot of the time it's virtue signaling of sorts.

@sunshinetadpole @Mackiavelli13 @lamp @Hoss i know it is a natural response to hate them. there are plenty of natural human responses that we overcome all the time because we aren't animals. we're complex beings with complex problems, caused by ourselves and the very nature of having complex thought. if we just went back to making everything about natural human responses, the world would absolutely be a worse place.

if people want to hate pedophiles, that's fine. if people want to wish death upon them, they can do that. i don't think it's helpful, though, and i think there's a lot of cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy between that and many beliefs of people who usually say this kind of stuff, solely because it involves children and that sparks up irrationality.

@Mackiavelli13 @lamp @Hoss that's just eugenics, which i believe is highly unethical. it's hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that some people would rather have people be killed for no more than thoughts. you are willing people to escalate those thoughts with your rhetoric. you want to believe so much that these people are going to be horrible enough to actually harm a child so that you can demonize them, rather than offering some help and preventing that from occurring. it's highly irrational.

@Hoss @lamp @Mackiavelli13 humans aren't dogs. people put dogs down when they get too old to walk, or even get too sick to take care of, but we don't do that to humans.

this is also a poor comparison because rabies is an actual disease that will kill you or kill an animal, and it is treatable if caught fast enough. pedophilia is a mental disorder that doesn't even cause distress for some people, and only really can become a problem when it starts becoming distressing, which i believe can be attributed to in part by telling pedophiles they would be better off dead or that they deserve to die.

if you consider children who were abused to be like dogs with rabies, i think you are in the wrong and don't actually care about human beings, let alone children. that way of thinking is just eugenics and i do not agree with that.

@Mackiavelli13 @lamp again, we're not talking about actually harming a child. if they do, then they should be punished. also, the context of that scripture iirc is about taking preventative measures so you don't sin, such as "cutting off your hand" so you don't thieve, or "tearing out your eyes" so you do not covet. i don't think it is necessarily meant to be taken literally. in the same vein, pedophiles can take preventative measures to make sure they do not harm little ones. many of them don't even have to, they know they never would do such a thing.

let me ask you a question. do you believe that children who have suffered abuse and now, as adults, are pedophiles should continue to be harmed? ones that use things such as loli and other fantasy as a coping mechanism, or an outlet? should they be treated just the same as the people who wronged them?

@OverstepSmirkCrepe @Mackiavelli13 @lamp people can do whatever they want to themselves, but i think requiring someone to be chemically castrated, or pushing them towards it for something like a lighter sentence, is cruel and unusual punishment. that FUCKS you up. plus, afaik there isn't really an equal to that for women who offend.

@sunshinetadpole @Mackiavelli13 @lamp @OverstepSmirkCrepe i agree with this, of course there are times when it can be sexual or driven by substances that increase your sex drive and lower inhibition, but i think it more often comes down to wanting power over someone (and an adult can have more power of a child than anyone else).
