@Mackiavelli13 @lamp i'm not saying anything about destroying a child's life. i'm not talking about people who act on their inclinations. i'm only expressing that those who do not act are not deserving of any punishment. if people hate them, that's their issue, but if people are actively trying to hurt them then it's not ethical. just because there is a child involved in the fantasy does not change that. it's where the sensationalism comes from, and it is the exact tactic governments and corporations use to strip away freedoms often. children could be on this website? we have to place down all of these restrictive rules. CP can be traded on phones? time to spy on your camera roll and send cops to your house if you take a picture of your child's rash. it is irrational behavior.

i'm not of the belief that most mental illnesses or types of thinking can truly be "cured" but they can be dealt with in healthy ways. i think that killing people isn't a healthy way of dealing with something, and wishing death upon them isn't exactly healthy either. i think it probably works in the opposite direction, where hating someone so much will only cause them to become closer to what you think they are. there are plenty of pedophiles out there that actually love children and would never do anything to harm them despite having those thoughts arise.

that's only my thoughts on the subject though because i don't know for sure, it's just kind of what i've observed over the years. people will meme about this phenomenon with radicalization of political views but when it comes to pedophilia it's "oh no these people are the scum of the earth, eradicate them" which is exactly what the NPC in this scenario did. that's why i say it's hypocritical.

@Humpleupagus @lamp i understand what you're saying. you don't have to condone pedophilia or think people who have it are good people or whatever, that is entirely your prerogative. that's not what the poll is about though, it's whether you want to KILL them because of it or not.

if my neighbor had a mental issue that caused him to wish to murder me and eat me, i'd either never know until he busted into my house in the middle of the night (in which case he's getting shot), i got randomly killed by him, or if he posted his fantasy online somewhere and someone showed it to me. in that case, i'd likely confront him and bring some backup but not kill him or anything. probably be on guard after that though. if there is something actually severely wrong with his mental state, maybe try to get him some help with trained professionals. should he be punished cruelly or killed for that though? i don't think so.

it's like my friend venting frustrations to me on the road. "yeah i'd like to pit maneuver that jackass and pop a cap in him." he's not going to do it even if he's fantasizing about it, and shouldn't be punished unless he actually does. likewise, people who say they want to kill pedophiles shouldn't be punished for saying that either. they're not actively threatening anyone, they just believe that pedophiles shouldn't be alive. until they actually harm someone or threaten to harm someone, i still believe they have the right to wish whatever they would like to wish.

@lamp pedophilic disorder isn't even diagnosed if it doesn't cause distress. pedophilia in general is incredibly sensationalized/weaponized and i would consider that a bad thing because when it gets like that, i believe it CAN cause distress. people get in their own head about it and start to freak out, maybe get depressed or do something rash. especially if there is something like childhood trauma that caused someone to think this way, or other mental issues.

even though many of my views are controversial (the circle i'm visiting just changes which ones are), i try my best to be as level-headed as possible and not let sensationalism get to me if i can help it. i feel like people wanting to kill/maim or otherwise harshly punish pedophiles are very similar to say, people who want to punch nazis or remove their rights for saying things they disagree with. two sides of the same coin. beliefs and thoughts should not be met with actions, they should be met with civilized debate, study, and philosophy.

killing or torturing someone who has technically done nothing wrong (and may have just had wrong done to them) is highly unethical and heartless from my point of view.

it's highly hypocritical when it is coming from people who advocate for free speech and to be left the fuck alone because they aren't doing anything harmful. you know that people who disagree with what you have to say would strip you of your rights (or worse) in an instant if they could, so why is it okay to do that to others?
