this could also be nice for situations where cracked games run better than the normal ones do, like in the case of RE8 and DmC.

interesting, recently steam has started showing the actual pages for games you have borrowed with a big purchase logo. could be nice for people downloading repacks of games that still want to purchase it via official means, or if you want to buy it later if you think it was good enough.

@djsumdog @weebSharpie @NEETzsche @waltercool @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p there are actually a pretty decent amount of indie games on steam that, while they don't advertise it, just don't have any DRM at all. you can quite literally just copy the files out and play them offline without a steam connection.

@djsumdog @weebSharpie @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p valve has said that if they ever do go under, they'll let you download all your games and play them without needing to connect to steam. up to you whether you trust that or not i guess, but thankfully there is a whole litany of people out there that can and do crack stuff anyway.

steam going under doesn't seem like it will happen in the near future, though. it will at one point, obviously, as everything will, but it's not like playstation or nintendo running old and relatively unsecure servers for old platforms that you can't buy brand new anymore.

@applejack so do you download the game normally and then go into properties, change language to russian, then it downloads the russian pack?

if that's how it works that's a step closer. i was more referring to selecting what language you wanted to download in the beginning though, so you wouldn't have to download english if you didn't want to, for instance. would be great for games like uncharted, where someone uploaded a "mod" that just replaces 27GB of language files with blank ones to decrease the size of the 100GB game lol. would be nice if you just didn't have to download those extra languages in the first place. i can imagine that's part of why Warzone was so fucking massive.

@Kyonko802 @weebSharpie @rainignterror1080p back then and even more so in the 90s, you were lucky if you got more than one game on your birthday and one game for christmas. and you had to hope they were AAA games because you'd always have parents and grandparents buying shitty movie tie-in games that were only like $20 in the bargain bin or whatever.

that's why sharing games was such a huge thing back then. used to strategize with friends and family members on who would get what game so we could play them and then swap them around so everyone could play everything.

it's also why renting games was so huge, because instead of buying a game for a lot of money you could just rent one for $5 for the week, play the fuck out of it, and then return it. we're seeing a sort of resurgence with that with things like Game Pass which is honestly a really nice system. essentially "renting" the games you really want to play but don't want to pay an exorbitant amount for, and the games you do want to keep forever you can buy outright.

@Kyonko802 is it actually $70? even worse, i wasn't planning on buying it at $60 let alone $70. i really hope Tears of the Kingdom and Starfield remain $60.
