@RehnSturm256 @xianc78 @idiot it's just that the story sucks, but the story was never meant to be a huge part of the game anyway. it's a lot different if you have a game like the last of us and the story sucks, because the story is the main draw of the game and the gameplay is just kind of there to make it a game instead of a movie. zelda is a game first and foremost, and a really fun one at that.
@RehnSturm256 @xianc78 @idiot yeah that's totally understandable. i still really fuckin love the game, i'm having a great time with it still and i've definitely put in well over 100 hours at this point. i don't want it to end, i want to keep exploring and finding cool stuff. i still have like 60 shrines to complete lol.
re: TotK spoilers, rant
@galena @xianc78 what do you define as a "link?" because the only link who is a direct descendent of another link is twilight princess, at least as far as we know. wind waker link is just some random ass kid. i can totally see a zonai guy being the hero for that time period. doesn't have to be someone named link, doesn't even have to be someone wearing the traditional green hat and tunic because botw and totk link sure as shit don't do that. "link" is only even named "link" in the latest two games because he's supposed to be a stand-in for the player, where you choose his name. that's why all of the lore refers to him as "the hero of X" instead of "x era's link."
other than that though, that's such a small stupid little thing that we pretty much already knew in the first place. like the dude is just straight up on the mural that gets shown to you in botw lol of course there was a hero that fought him and sure, whatever, he was a zonai.
i wish they could have done some time travel shit but instead of going back to the "founding of hyrule" they just went back to that war 10,000 years ago and explained how all of that went down, and then link could have another meaningful connection with another hero instead of another king of hyrule.
@xianc78 @idiot @RehnSturm256 it is pretty unfortunate to see link no longer being a lefty. interestingly, breath of the wild was originally going to have motion controls as well and that's why link's right handed. they couldn't just make him left handed for the sequel all of the sudden. it makes me wonder if the next major zelda game will have link as a lefty again.
@RehnSturm256 @xianc78 well yeah there's one thing tying the characters together with visual design, to show that they are both bad guys in the series and that they're demons. i mean yuga and malladus (who is also given the title of "demon king") have red hair too. crazy red hair = bad guy.
the demon king moniker was used for ganon still after skyward sword. a link between worlds uses it i believe and now so does tears of the kingdom. that's 2 of the last 4 (new, real) zelda games to come out after skyward sword.
@idiot @xianc78 @RehnSturm256 (and yes, i even like the motion controls in SS, i think they're actually done pretty well and in hindsight believing journalists that they were bad was pretty funny)
@idiot @xianc78 @RehnSturm256 i think that tears of the kingdom makes breath of the wild look like a tech demo. it's much more expansive and there's really no reason to play botw, at all.
i do like how it went back to miyamoto's original idea for the series though, just exploring and finding little secrets and such all the time. totk does a much, much better job at that than botw did as well.
i also actually really love skyward sword though hahaha, the music is amazing, i love the graphics, i actually really like the story and how it did add a lot of extra expanse to the lore that was pretty intriguing and made other games in the series seem more deep than they originally were. that last bit is what tears of the kingdom really failed to do, instead just kind of throwing it all away and kind of making a mockery out of it in some ways. they could have added so much context but instead were just like "ehhhh whatever just make some new shit based on old shit."
@RehnSturm256 @xianc78 alright so i hate the downfall timeline's existence too, but i think it is worth noting that with the development of ocarina of time, that's when they had kicked the whole timeline thing into motion. we just didn't know about it until the hyrule historia came out. it was in the works for a while, although nothing super solid was planned out they knew pretty early that there would be a timeline split after ocarina of time and how those pieces would fall.
and that's not true about ganondorf and demise's relationship at all. the english translation makes it seem like it is demise reincarnating into ganondorf, but in actuality the curse just ties demonkind to hylia's reincarnation (zelda) and whoever possesses the hero's spirit at the time (link). it's not even necessarily a curse, but more of a promise. hylia was already going to be passed down throughout zelda's bloodline, and the hero is more of an archetype than an actual reincarnation or anything, so demise is just promising that demonkind will always plague hyrule, with his defeat.
this is why there are games that feature a villain that isn't ganondorf but is still a demon of some kind, or use demonic powers, including trying to bring back ganon (who is ganondorf, just in demon form, and it's always been that way).
ganondorf is a super evil dude, but he is also a demon. the demon king, in fact. he is, for the vast majority of the games, NOT a recurring soul and never was. he's the same dude from ocarina of time all through twilight princess, to wind waker, and in every single game in the downfall timeline he appears in. always the same guy. the only ones that are different are four swords adventures and, probably, tears of the kingdom (unless FSA and BOTW are more connected than we think, because the dark world and shadow link are a result of that ganondorf's malice funny enough). those both turn into ganon at some point though too, being literally referred to as the demon king in tears of the kingdom, so he is a recurring character but i think it's more of a brand familiarity thing for the most part, than it is a serious reincarnation thing going on, especially because there are probably countless other gerudo guys that weren't evil and many that were probably named ganondorf. it's like zelda being named zelda all the time, like there have to be some princesses that aren't named zelda but then wtf would you call the game? legend of anise?
@xianc78 ocarina of time is a coming of age story, but imo it's done in a pretty unique way where instead of the part where you slowly grow up, it is all thrust upon link very quickly and he still has the opportunity to go back to where that wasn't the case to change things about the future with the knowledge he later gains. it's pretty interesting, it's a coming of age story but in a bit more of a somber, dark way.
@flux_the_cat @rlier23 @rasterman @Eiswald it's amazing how people can still like you, even if you are a little fucked up, as long as you aren't an annoying faggot.
TotK spoilers, rant
@LukeAlmighty @xianc78 I think they just got stuck doing the same thing, honestly. They didn't change the story structure at all.
@rlier23 around blacks...
@rlier23 @Eiswald @flux_the_cat I got my friend hooked on touhou by showing him metal covers of the music hahaha
@rasterman @rlier23 @Eiswald @flux_the_cat see, shit like this is why I'm impressed at how socially normal I turned out despite being an absolute degenerate.
