@Jazzy_Butts it's why i hesitate to say i'm a furry, or that i'm a smash player, because it gives the connotation that i'm part of those communities which i'm really not. i used to be but something about being in a community just feels like a hivemind to me. even in school, i never fit in with a clique or anything like that. i like just doing my own thing.

Interviewer is a tranny that named itself after Krystal which is cringe as FUCK but they do a pretty good job as an interviewer regardless so whatever.

Some really interesting takeaways from this interview:

Estelle wasn't originally a voice actress, she actually applied to Rare to be on the administration team and had done localization work for Nintendo of Europe on Gameboy games. Her roles were mostly just placeholder lines. She didn't even particularly know where her lines were going to end up, it was just her saying them in a studio real quick. Some of the characters she voiced she doesn't even recognize as having voiced them.

The dinosaur language in Star Fox Adventures (Saurian) is an example of a Caesar cypher.

Estelle and Steve Malpass (Fox's voice actor in SFA) were friends outside of work but never actually did voice work together.

She did all of the motion capture for Joanna Dark in Perfect Dark Zero. That's pretty cool! (As a sidenote, the actress for Assault's Krystal did the motion capture for Chell in Portal 1 and 2!)

Estelle right now works in selling video game peripherals as well as, funny enough, an "empath" of sorts. Just like Krystal haha! Think of therapy but instead of doing it by the books and loading you up on drugs it actually tries to get to the core. Pretty cool!

Yes, she was asked about NSFW stuff and she's apparently fine with it, mentioning that it's fictional and if people want to express themselves that way, it's good they can do that instead of doing "dark stuff" that she "doesn't have time for" specifically name dropping Jeffrey Epstein lol. If it doesn't harm anyone she's all good with it. Based as fuck.

When the interviewer makes a joke about a conspiracy theory she instead opts to call it "truth-seeking"

Even though she says Command isn't canon (also take) she does mention that the ending with her and Fox settling down and having a kid doesn't seem right to her, despite being a fan favorite. I can respect that. She says it would be rather boring for the character, which I interpret as wanting Krystal to have more adventures instead of just being put on the sideline. (I'm still personally a fan of that ending though because it's cute lol)

It's honestly crazy how her voice sounds exactly the same as it did 20 years ago.

Not really a stated fact but just something I noticed, she says that working at Rare was nothing but a good time, and that there were very few female employees there, as was standard for the game industry back then. I have to wonder if introducing more women into a typically male-oriented hobby has had a net negative on the culture of that space. Not speaking of the actual products that end up coming out, because I think we can all agree on that one changing quite a bit, but the work place itself. In recent times there have been a lot of scandals about women being treated poorly at game dev studios, but from what I can ascertain, that wasn't really the case until a lot more women started working in the industry. Just an interesting observation.

It could be more indicative of the type of women who were in gaming in the earlier days as well, contrasted to the ones these days. Estelle talks about how much she believes in channeling feminine energy, which is something I can appreciate. Women DO have unique ideas and different skills to bring to the table, but modern feminism would have you believe that they are just the same as men which is really downplaying their strengths in other areas and I think only really ends in toxicity.

this just speaks volumes to me, about how even when you think your life is pretty set in a particular path, it can always change up when you meet the right people, or pursue that one errant opportunity. it's never over 'til it's done. estelle is in her early 40s now but look at what has changed, even halfway through life! and it really only is the halfway point, isn't it? 40 sounds so old sometimes, but putting it into perspective, that's only halfway.

Yooo the voice actress for Krystal in Star Fox Adventures, Estelle Ellis, is reprising the role in Star Fox Event Horizon. It's a mod of Freespace 2, a total overhaul that makes it into a Star Fox game. I tried playing it on mouse and keyboard years ago, terrible mistake. Maybe I'll revisit it on controller soon!

I love how she's started doing all this voice work again! Crazy to think that it wouldn't have happened if a mad lad making a Half Life 2 mod didn't talk her into it and actually buy her a microphone lol.
