oh great and now i'm just finding out that you can't even play the discs with powerdvd. why the fuck is playing blurays on pc so fucking hard? i know it's a more niche thing to want to do but it's so annoying that it's THIS difficult, nigh impossible, when blu-ray and UHD have been a thing for so long.

@SuperDicq @Nigma @coolboymew @dushman i don't like brave's crypto shit but you can turn it off and get a clean browser with a built-in adblock that is actually really good and won't fall victim to manifest v3 because it's a separate thing written in rust.

was using waterfox for a few years, switched to brave and found it to be a much nicer experience personally. it's less hungry and was easier to work with.

afaik, it is among the best performing browsers, with edge actually being a contender for the best but the ms shit definitely shows.

if you're really going ham on trying to have the most secure/private browsing experience possible without just flat out not using the clearnet at all, then using hardened firefox and only enabling javascript when you actually have to and shit is the way to go. for other people that just want a good out of the box setup though, where you just gotta turn off some crypto shit, brave is great.

opera gx, on the other hand, force feeds shit into their browser like vtuber streams and jump scares. kinda bordering on unethical there, imo. absolute meme browser.

kind of crazy that a manufacturer can just "upgrade" firmware and remove features. then encrypt said firmware to make it harder to downgrade.

i just downgraded my blu-ray drive's firmware so it can now play UHD discs.

@Pawlicker @Tony @anemone i do think there's something to be said about the whole "show biz" thing where you just push and push and push people, it's not illegal but it's crazy unethical. reminds me of that japanese dude on the game show where he was naked the whole time and could only get stuff by winning giveaways. like, you know that no matter what kind of prize money these people win or whatever it's all just going to mr beast. which then goes into building houses for random people in africa or whatever, which generates more revenue for him to do more stupid shit.

pewdiepie must be feeling damn good about himself right about now, knowing he didn't have to do ANY of this crazy shit to be the most popular youtuber. if mr beast was authentic for a single day in his life he'd be homeless.

@Pawlicker @Tony @anemone yeah i figured that was real, i'm just not sure about the part about him working for mr beast and wearing a mask in videos. if that's the case man, then fuck, that's really not good. not that i care what happens to mr beast, but it's a shame that this sort of shit just routinely happens.
