@LukeAlmighty part of it is because nintendo makes their games for a dedicated platform. other publishers and devs have to make them for lots of different hardware usually.
there is something to be said about the art style as well. that can go a really long way.
then there is also the fact that lots of developers just kind of suck now apparently.
