Touhou Luna Nights review (9.5/10)

Actually a phenomenal game. It's difficult, but not unfair. I managed to beat the game without using the shop at all, mostly because I didn't know where it was until I was getting close to the end and decided I just wasn't going to use it xD

The sprite art is a tiny bit wonky, but for the most part it looks really good. The gameplay is smooth, with my only real gripe being that there is no grace window for jumping after running off a platform like there is in something like Mario. That killed me a couple times until I realized what was happening.

Music is fucking awesome, but of course it is... it's Touhou. The remixes have a cool blend of Castlevania SotN added in to them.

Your combat abilities are actually your traversal abilities too, which is cool to see in a Metroidvania-style game. Usually those are kept pretty separate, but not here.

The game is a good length. I beat it in about 6 hours. There is more content too, apparently Cirno and Reimu boss fights. Gonna' get to playing those soon. The bosses seemed to get progressively harder until the very end. Remilia was probably the hardest one and it teetered off a bit past that. Still, it only took me I think 3-4 tries to beat Remilia so it wasn't too bad.

The part where the game is really lacking is the fact that you can't adjust any of the settings other than controls after you boot up the game. If you want to change the audio mix or the display mode, you have to restart the game, which is a hassle.

All in all though, fantastic game and definitely making it to a high spot on my top 100 list. Really enjoyed it, and if you like Touhou and/or Metroidvanias I think you'll enjoy it too!

Touhou Luna Nights review (9.5/10)

I like it enough that I would consider buying the physical deluxe edition. Don't really have the money for it right now since I'm just waiting for that Nagatoro bunny outfit figure to come out and then I've gotta' move after that, but hopefully there will still be copies available next year!
