Me: Come on, Firefox' market share can't be this low
>quick online search
>it was 2.74 in August 2024
Oh my god... it is. Firefox is dying. Samsung's browser is close to passing it, and that's an Android only thing, and only on Samsung devices. Can't wait for the cope from the open source crowd.

@alyx@gameliberty.club @matrix@gameliberty.club With Mozilla turning into an advertising company there is not much point anymore, and that probably shows on those numbers. :ablobcatcry:

@alyx There's a reason for it. I installed Firefox on my mom's computer and she couldn't log into her email because the site wasn't loading properly.

@matrix @alyx I decided to take a vacation to Las Vegas next month, and was having problems buying tickets to shows using Firefox, it just didn't work even with tracking protection and all the pro-privacy addons turned off. Wound up having to use MS Edge to buy the tickets.

Never been to Vegas before, but two people warned me that everything is super expensive there, including $8 for a bottle of water. But I'd like to enjoy it once in my life (have been to Reno before but not Vegas), hopefully I won't spend too much money.
@Nepiant @alyx @matrix I just want to have some fun. When you live in the woods there's nothing to do, so I like to have fun every now and then.
@Suzu @redneonglow @alyx @matrix if you remove just the 'https://' from your youtube link when you post it, varis won't convert it into a invidious link and you'll be able to access the youtube video just by clicking on it.
@Nepiant @alyx @matrix @redneonglow yeah, I was wondering how to do it.
And I was actually going to ask Halo what's the point of Varish converting the youtube links to the invidious instance if the invidious instance hasn't been working for years now.

@Suzu @Nepiant @alyx @matrix @redneonglow cuz Halo is a silly willy and we must bully our benevolent overlord with a cascade of lewd Uma's to do what we want :megumin_shrug:
@redneonglow @Nepiant @alyx @matrix do what I do, set shit on fire...oh wait I do that cuz I'm crazy and a pyromaniac. Nevermind.

@redneonglow @alyx @matrix the main things you need to worry about are scammers and pick pockets. everyone will really try to get money out of you in any way possible. just don't talk to anyone or entertain any conversation, focus on the mission.

@matrix I'm sure there's plenty of reasons for it. Me personally, I simply can't use Firefox because I absolutely hate how it renders fonts. I've tried every way imaginable to teak settings, but to me they just feel thick and blurry. With Chromium browsers by contrast, I get thin, crisp sharp lines.

@alyx @matrix i was a firefox user of 2 years bc of a chrome bug, and once it was fixed, i went back to chrome, 0 intentions to going back at all for multiple reasons
@alyx @matrix and b4 you say it, no ads because ublock lite on optimal mode just works like ublock origin did

@mischievoustomato @matrix
I'm on Vivaldi, and ublock origin still works for now. I'm guessing they'll turn off support for Manifest V2 eventually, but it actually has its own integrated ad blocker too. So I'm sure I'll be fine, whatever might happen.

@matrix everything a tranny touches turns to dust. I'm really going to miss that dyke with a grinder that they spam you with whenever you open firefox :doge_laugh:

@RecycleBin @matrix
The sad part is not, that everything a troon touches turns to dust, but that at that point, you are just happy for the pain to be over.

@RecycleBin @matrix It's because of the same EEE bullshit in the IE6 era, but it's okay now because it's FOSS
@matrix tbf that sites is gathering data with analytics most firefox user would block those or even if they don't they might get removed from the data bc "not chrome and residential ip? BOOOOOOT"

best real life example how many firefox user opt out of analytics would be (if i remember correctly) the addon user count change mozilla did back in june 25th and 29th.

June 25th 5.5 million user
https://web.archive.org/web/20200625022227/https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

June 29th 3.9 million user
https://web.archive.org/web/20200629052515/https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

that is a reduction of almost 40%

/end cope
@matrix found a source backing up my memory

"The drop in users is caused by the switch to the new system. It appears that, in the case of uBlock Origin, about 1.6 million users of the add-on have Telemetry data disabled in Firefox. Privacy, security and advanced extensions will likely see a larger drop in users than other extensions as users of these type of extensions are more likely to turn off Telemetry."

https://www.ghacks.net/2020/06/26/here-is-why-the-user-count-dropped-for-nearly-all-firefox-add-ons/

@matrix all that money from google really helped them in the long run huh

@matrix idc lol still using firefox (because cant be bothered to compile chromosome)

@matrix Good I hope Firefox "ceases to exist" so someone else can take it over and NOT LAUNDER 98% OF THE FUNDS THEY RECEIVE BY INVESTING IT INTO FEMINIST BASKET-WEAVING STUDIES IN FUCKING TANZANIA

GOD I FUCKING HATE "NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS" SO MUCH IT'S UNREAL
@VIPPER @matrix >someone else can take it over
please, who the fuck's gonna take over firefox? all the coders capable enough of developing it use either chrome or hipster shit nobody cares about for /g/ or r/unixporn/ cred, if it ceases to exist, it in fact, ceases to exist and not a single soul will contribute to it because the antichrist corporation took over the browser market
@lina @matrix Does it matter? Even Ramzan Kadyrov can do a better job at developing Firefox than the Mozilla Foundation at this point
@VIPPER @matrix it is gonna matter as google fanatics pick holes and vulnerabilities in the source code and start targeting firefork users for not being part of the google tranny hivemind
plus let's not forget that it can also end up fully absorbed by google and turned into a fucking chrome reskin, there is no good end for firefox at these rates
@lina @matrix Firefox has been troonware ever since Mozilla fired Eichmann, so not much would change honestly.
@VIPPER @matrix except you can at least strip it of the troonware and not be a google cultist, you know the kind that use exclusively webp and webm and seethe with made up arguments when you call them faggots for using those faggot formats
@lina @matrix I'm not defending Chromium either, since it's dogshit too. We used to have at least one good browser and that was Firefox. Now we have none, only shit choices.
@VIPPER @matrix i know, but if firefox won't get actual people who care about having a good browser and not a chrome reskin no amount of fireforks will save it because nobody's just gonna fucking bother developing it and fixing it the moment it starts losing security, likewise forks like icecat or librewolf will fucking choke too because they basically just patch the upstream

@matrix@gameliberty.club Maybe they shouldn't have turned it into a copy of chrome. :blobcatunamused:

@matrix
I've been primarily using Firefox since version fucking 4. I like Firefox.

Once Mozilla decided to say that the internet should be censored I jumped ship to a derivative.

I just want something not based on fucking Chromium at this point though.
