Dear gamedevs: please stop hosting your communities on Reddit and/or Discord and get an actual forum. You player-base can cope with it, trust me.
@Tadano How has Discord replaced wikis?
@MasterSimper @Tadano Okay, that makes sense. I actually have noticed that with video game proto archive communities, even mods and hacks are distributed through Discord.
I've also noticed that people are using Google Docs in place of wikis as well, like these people can't even host a wiki on Fandom (which is already a bad choice in its own right).
@xianc78 @MasterSimper @Tadano using discord for mods, particularly nintendo ones, is actually a pretty good idea because it keeps them out of the public eye and they're less likely to be taken down.
@Tadano @beardalaxy @MasterSimper Matrix has it's own flaws. I recommend XMPP.

Tor hidden services, I2P, Usenet, forums that require login in order to view, other chat protocols. There are a bunch of other options.
Also if the ROM hack in question is a patch, then it falls under fair use.
@theorytoe @Tadano @pawlicker @MasterSimper I still remember the days when people made it a big deal that they made a post on a device other than a PC. I can't count the many times I saw the "posting from my DS/Wii/cell phone/kindle/PSP/etc" spam.
@pawlicker @Tadano @MasterSimper I'm technically a zoomer (born 1998), but I still remember forums. I still remember hearing about Reddit becoming popular and absolutely hating it.
@clora @Tadano @berkberkman @MasterSimper @pawlicker @theorytoe Enjoy it while it lasts, unless you can get a job that doesn't require installing some phone app.
@MasterSimper If your forum is only getting one new thread per month, then I think a simple shoutbox or guestbook would be better options.
@xianc78 It’s a matter of resistance. Registering an entirely new forum account? Lame! Join another discord like the ten million before? Easy peasy.
Yes, you get rid of the stupid zoomers but that cuts down an incredible amount of your audience.
@brainworms Then get a shoutbox. It's real time and they usually don't require registration to use. A lot of webcomics used them back in the day.
And if your community is too small to justify a forum, just get a simple shoutbox or guestbook on your website. Those usually don't require accounts to use so users don't have to jump through hoops just to be a part of your community.
