The IPCC just issued "code red for humanity" a few months ago despite record sea ice and record snowstorms. It wouldn't surprise me if some countries start doing this.

Slack has recognized the problem, and changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 works

ISP tells me it's not their problems despite a simple DNS change resolving the issue

Is it truly not their DNS's problem?
