@beardalaxy According to Sakurai in his video, a freeze frame is necessary in shmups because sometimes you die so quickly, you don't even know how you die. So it's best to have a freeze frame to show what hit you.

I could also replace the tile background with a solid color for an added effect.

I really am enjoying Sakurai's new channel despite the whole freeze frame rant (which really wasn't a big deal btw). Sakurai seems to be one of the most down to earth Japanese game designers out there. I wish more game developers would do this.

Plus, he's actually talking about game design unlike western game design channels like Extra Credits who talk about how online shooters need to stop "glorifying nazis".

@lanodan @hj Same here. They were really popular as toys for whatever reason. I didn't even realize that they were actually used for math.

@waltercool Just get a training certification. There are plenty of them for IT jobs.
