There's "freedom" to do certain things and a lot of stupid or midwit-level people only see this surface level freedom and embrace it and there's "freedom" FROM certain things, that are often the 2nd or 3rd order effect from an established order or restriction on oneself that are of greater worth or value than that surface level freedom.

People have embraced the former and forgotten the latter.
