@wowaname @BeedleDave @mrsaturday @sun Never cared about that either. All I know is that it's full of NPCs and it blacklists a lot of links like @djsumdog's website.
@wowaname @BeedleDave @mrsaturday @sun >reddit news
Oh you mean HackerNews?
@wowaname @BeedleDave @mrsaturday @sun I never used Reddit so I wouldn't even know.
They said that they didn't want porn because they don't want it to be something like many of the loli instances on here where people post nothing but porn and immediately destroy the reputation of the network.
@wowaname @BeedleDave @mrsaturday @sun Bastyon/PocketNet uses community moderation where users with a high enough reputation can flag certain content. If a post gets enough flags then it will be hidden for all users. The problem with that is that Bastyon not only asks high-ranked users to flag illegal content but porn in general as well.
By the way, don't bother using Bastyon because I don't know how truly decentalized it is and even then, virtually all images on the network are hosted externally on Imgur.
@VD15 @wowaname @mrsaturday @sun Nostr isn't blockchain based. It supports Bitcoin donations, but it uses a different way to store accounts, and messages.
@sun @wowaname @BeedleDave @mrsaturday Just for the record here is what the Nostr public timeline looks like for me right now. No spam, and I connect to every relay that I can.
@wowaname @BeedleDave @mrsaturday @sun Doesn't 4chan go out of it's way to block every VPN, proxy, and Tor exit node under the sun?
@sun @wowaname @BeedleDave @mrsaturday I have yet to encounter any spam or CP on Nostr, outside of that reply-bot (or whatever it was called), and I think whoever was behind that bot spam intentionally did it because they hated the fedi bridges.
@mrsaturday @wowaname @BeedleDave @sun
>His vision for Fedi wasn't realistic and he was a divisive figure that set development back with his "my way or the highway" take on things.
I'd argue that his vision for the Fedi could've had a chance if Gab didn't defederate and other alt-tech sites decided to implement federation shortly after.
>I don't think Nostr has much of a future (every similar project has resulted in CP flooding)
Nostr doesn't have a CP problem. Node admins can moderate their own nodes and blacklist users from posting on said nodes. It's not like ZeroNet where everyone risks hosting cheese pizza. Don't listen to false accusations from Poast users.
@sun @wowaname @BeedleDave @jeffcliff They will bring up how Meta helped some genocide in some third-world country that I forgot the name of.
@sun @wowaname @BeedleDave I disagree. It's run by a company and these fedi leftists hate capitalism enough to avoid for-profit services like the plague. Best thing for them is to just have a whitelist of servers to federate.
@sun @wowaname @BeedleDave There were a bunch of Twitter users who threaten to jump ship but I bet most of them will abandon their accounts within a month. Most of them just hate Elon Musk, but for the wrong reasons.
But I wouldn't really care if BlueSky somehow manages to make a dent in Twitter's userbase given what Elon Musk plans to do with it (making it an "everything app" which to me sounds like Digital ID). Granted, BlueSky can still do the same, but I don't expect that to happen any time in the near future.
@sun @wowaname @BeedleDave BlueSky still relies on centralized servers much like how vanilla bitcoin still relies on the centralized "lightening network". It's no more decentralized than a torrent tracker.
@sun @wowaname @BeedleDave
>he got a nostr grant
Was it from Jack Dorsey? He immediately jumped to Nostr after the failure of BlueSky.
@sun @wowaname @BeedleDave I honestly don't know the full extent of those conflicts as I was never a dev for any Fedi software nor an instance owner/admin.
But as someone who has experienced both networks, Nostr seems to align more with the vision he had for the fedi.
@wowaname @BeedleDave @sun Can you really blame him for leaving the Fedi. Here, he gets cancelled by Pleroma and Akkoma devs, and dogpiled by Poast users. Meanwhile, the Nostr community embraces him with open arms and he got to go to Nostr conventions because of it.
@beardalaxy It's literally that "Quality of Life" device that Iwata was hinting at, over a decade ago. I always thought that thing was swept under the rug after he passed away. It seems like they still honored Iwata's word even though Nintendo became profitable again.
Literally the only thing that sets this thing apart from other clocks (besides the downloadable themes) is that it uses a motion sensor to detect you getting out of bed as the way to shut the thing up.
Though if Nintendo truly wants to branch out from video games and actually have an innovative clock, they need to market this to everyone, not just Nintendo fans. Maybe in the future, there will be downloadable themes based on movies and other stuff, but this just looks like some generic Nintendo merchandise with a stupid gimmick.

@beardalaxy Local politicians tend to do more reconstruction during election year in hopes that they can stay in office.
