@beardalaxy @einziggurat @ArdanianRight IIRC, the Super Mario 64 decomp was done by creating a disassembly and writing equivalent C code by hand. Naturally, there will be differences from the decomp and Nintendo's official source code.

@siinclaiir@neckbeard.xyz The project is notable for being an ambitious attempt to write a game completely from scratch, using no third-party libraries like SDL or DirectX. Just the language and the OS APIs. I guess he recently decided to use C++ to make things easier (malloc is a bitch).

@einziggurat @ArdanianRight @beardalaxy Even then, you can still find disassembles and decompilations of various Nintendo games on GitHub and Nintendo doesn't seem to bat an eye.

@siinclaiir@neckbeard.xyz I thought he was using C. I remember him doing a rant video on C++.

Wasn't it also because how much of a shit BO Mark was?

"Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box."

You have to present a photo id at MLB stadium box offices to pick up your tickets, they literally are whining that voting should be easier than getting will-call tickets to their own baseball games.

@einziggurat @ArdanianRight @beardalaxy It requires a Melee ISO to extract assets in order to compile. This is what keeps it legal (or at least in a legal gray area).

@Moon You might want to just get a separate unlocked phone. I thought about getting an Android emulation handheld (preferably one without a mic or cellular connection) just to install apps like these.

@Moon I don't know what that is.

The apps are Crew (which is actually open source and on GitHub so I could side load that one) and Homebase (which requires Google Play and apparently connects to Facebook). I wish I could convince our boss to use something else like Retroshare, but this is a fast-food restaurant we're talking about. I hope my first real job after graduating college won't require bullshit apps like this, but I think these types of apps will become standard for jobs soon.

@Moon My job requires me to have two apps that I can't install on these types of phones. I can't even use a de-googled phone.

>i do think that a lot of smash players or at least TOs want to pretend like nintendo sponsoring an event makes them a legitimate tournament because the FGC gives them shit about not being a real fighting game all the time.
That makes sense, but even Masahiro Sakurai said that he never intended Smash to be a competitive fighting game. He even partially came up with the idea for Smash after defeating a noob in King of Fighters at a local arcade when he was younger. I also remember him saying that he semi-regrets creating Melee as it wasn't what he intended Smash to be.

>in fact I think you might actually be able to use it on a gamecube if you have the right equipment
The Gamecube does have that modem and broadband adapter, but that was only ever officially used for LAN games and Phantasy Star Online along with a few Japan-only games. And those network adapters are rare as hackers later found out that they can be used for homebrew and piracy via exploits, so Nintendo had to discontinue them. Plus, the network adapters are not compatible with the Wii and from what I've heard, homebrew on actual GameCube hardware is tedious.

There is a WIP project that is aiming to fully decompile Melee's source code (you still need to provide a legitimate ISO to abstract the game assets for legal reasons). This could open the door to more mods including a native PC port with online. I can see more tournaments embracing this as long as they do it legally (requiring the ISO to compile as I mentioned previously).

@ChristiJunior As a game programmer, Yuji Naka was sort of a role model for me along with John Carmack and Satoru Iwata it's sad to see that he's gone the deep end.
